The cheesiest of fortresses (modding question)
« on: April 06, 2017, 10:04:56 am »

I want to create a fortress dedicated fully to the production of cheese.

But cheese lacks quality modifiers. How may I mod the game to enable it ? (the cheese quality, that is)

Hopefully, the cheese will flow ! :D

If you're serious about modding cheese, what about:

1) Cheese maturity. Especially for Gouda (yellow) cheese, there's a world of difference between young, mature, and old cheese. Ideally, a stored cheese would need to be turned around periodically, after which it could reach a new maturity level
2) Additions. Cheese with seeds or herbs added can be delicious
3) Different stages in cheese production, much like ash->lye->soap, but here it could be milk [+ bone (marrow)] -> curd -> cheese+ whey. For the second stage, you can make hard cheese (requires fuel to heat the curd?) or soft cheese (takes more time?). The whey can be further processed into whey cheese, whey butter, or whey alcohol.

Mod cheese wheels to be used as building material for walls and such.

You might have more luck asking in the modding forum directly, but I'm not sure it's possible to add quality modifiers to cheese like that.  DFHack might make it possible, but that would be a ton of work.

Following vanatteveldt's suggestions might be one way of making the cheese more interesting though.  You'd have to create custom reactions for the various stages of production, but I think it is at least possible to make cheese from a reaction.

Alternatively, you could just make cheese from various animals' milk and then cook the different varieties into masterwork cheese roasts.  That would be much easier.

Search all "stones" and replace with "cheese"  in the raws?

I would try search and replace:
Bauxite = Red Cheese
Orhtoclase = Cheddar
Olivince = Moldy Cheese
Microcline = Bleu Cheese

Dwarven Syrup = Cheese Wiz

All logs are now cheese.  Willow cheese, Oak cheese, Glumprong cheese...

Hmmm...

@vanatteveldt : Yeah ! Great ideas :P
And the link you provided is awesome !!

But yeah, as I expected, there is no easy way to add in ☼cheese☼
I'd have to mod quite a lot, maybe if I have time (and will), I'll do it.

Thx guys ! ;)

I suggest using kilokittens. As cats are 10X the volume of kittens. That way, 50 cats would be .5 kilokittens.

100 cats would be 1 kilokitten.
