At long last I am beginning a new Dwarfopoly game. However, This one will begin as a story-mode world that charts the emergence of whole lineages of dwarves from one civ: The Bridge Builders of Mingtutherith. Vanilla DF has no rhyme nor reason when it comes to naming its dwarves, making the following of lineages very difficult. So I will be using the following rules to simplify and clarify who is related to whom over the course of the emerging history:
Rules for individual names:
Unmarried female dwarves: add "i" to the end of their first name. Example: "Aden" becomes "Adeni"
Unmarried male dwarves: add "o" to the end of their first name: Example: "Aden" becomes "Adeno"
Married female dwarves: add "a" to the end of their name: Example: "Adeni" becomes "Adenia"
Married male dwarves: remove the "o" from the end of the name: Example: "Adeno" becomes "Aden"
If two single dwarves happen to occur at the same embark with the same first names, a look into both their descriptions will be used to find an appropriate difference and added to each's name using a hyphen.
Example: Two dwarves named "Adilo" might become "Little-Adilo" and "Big-Adilo".
However, if a migrant happens to come to the Fortress who has the same name as a current member, only the migrant or the current member will receive the hyphen treatment.
Rules for Clan names:
Clans are created in one of three ways:
1) An already married couple arrives as migrants or two dwarves with no clan ties in a Fortress decide to get married.
2) A dwarf with no clan ties creates an artifact.
3) A dwarf with no Clan ties is chosen by a member of the DF community to represent them. ("Dorfing")
If #1 is the case, then the husband's oldest direct male relative's second name is used. (I'll be using a dwarf fortress translator to turn it into English words)
Example: Aden bukètlanlar would be translated as "Aden Quickbird". All further descendants of Aden Quickbird would be included in the Quickbird clan from then on. Aden's wife would also add "Quickbird" as her surname, as would any children they had.
If #2 is the case, then the first two words of the artifact is used (ignoring "the", "of" or "a" ). Example: Adeni creates an artifact chair and names it "The Slimy Snake of Traveling". Her surname then becomes "Slimysnake".
If #3 is the case, then the chosen "dorfing" name is used as the "Clan" name. Example: The dwarf "Adeno" is chosen to be "dorfed" by Timeless Bob. He then becomes "Aden Timeless", Patriarch of the "Timeless Clan".
In the case of a clan affiliated dwarf marrying a non-clan affiliated dwarf, such as Adeni Slimysnake marrying some dwarf, the non-affiliated dwarf takes on that clan name as their own.
If two members of different clans marry, the clan of the spouse with the greatest Clan prestige is adopted by the other spouse. In this manner, dwarves will naturally "marry up". In the case that both clans have equal prestige, the gender of the current Monarch takes precedence (ie: Queen = wife's Clan, King = husband's Clan.)
Clan prestige and the three classes of Nobles: The Royalty, The Nobility and The Gentry
All Monarchs are assumed to be part of a Clan from the outset, with the associated Prestige that goes along with that. Members of this Clan are considered to be "The Royalty". Dwarves with "Royal" ancestors will have preference over any others for open positions. The Royalty may only swear fealty to other Noble Clans.
All Barons, Counts and Dukes are assumed to be part of new Clans after being appointed, if they aren't already members of one. These are the "The Nobility". Dwarves with "Noble" Ancestors will have preference over any others except Royalty for open positions. The Nobility is also segregated into three sub-groups: The Barons, The Counts and the Dukes. Within the Nobility, dwarves with Duke/Duchess ancestors take precedence, followed by ones with Count/Countess relatives and then Baron/Baroness relatives. The Nobility may only swear fealty to Royal or Noble Clans.
All other Clans are "The Gentry". Dwarves who are part of "The Gentry" have preference over all others except The Royalty and The Nobility for open positions.
Exceptions: The Mayor and the Expedition Leaders. The dwarf who is elected Mayor may be chosen from anyone in the population as its coded in the game, which gives that dwarf (and any affiliated Clan) the prestige from that position. Likewise, in any new site, the dwarf chosen to be Expedition leader will give themselves and any related Clans that prestige as well.
When positions in the nobility are available, of the dwarves available to be chosen at the time, the members of the Clans with the most prestige and greatest fealty have first consideration, followed by the second most and so on. Otherwise the positions remain unfilled until another Clan member shows up to fill them.
Members of the forum are considered to be minor deities in this game. They bear the title collectively as "The Forii". A Forii can choose any single Clan to sponsor, which increases that Clan's Prestige by 7. Since a Forii is only a minor deity, however, each will only be able to sponsor one Clan at a time. If a Forii chooses to withdraw their sponsorship of a Clan, the Clan will reduce its Prestige by 7 in the following year to show the effects of that abandonment.
When two dwarves from established Clans get married, The Clan who has adopted the spouse gets +1p from adding a living member, but the Clan who loses a member will instead "swear fealty" to the Clan with the greater Prestige at that time and in return gain an amount equal to 1/2 the difference of the Prestige of the other Clan.
(Example: Clan A has 12 Prestige and Clan B has 4 Prestige.) If dwarves from the two Clans marry, Clan A will adopt the spouse from Clan B (+1 Prestige for Clan A) and Clan B will swear fealty to Clan A (+4 Prestige for Clan B: 12 - 4 = 8, 8 / 2 = 4).
A Clan may only swear Fealty to Clans who are have not previously sworn fealty to another or who themselves are not in Fealty to that Clan either directly or by association. (Example: Clan D swears fealty to Clan B. Clan C swears fealty to Clan B. Clan B swears fealty to Clan A. Clan A has the direct fealty of Clan B, and has fealty by association of Clans C & D. Therefore, Clan A may never swear fealty to Clans B, C or D.)

Broker: +1 Prestige
Chief Medical Dwarf: +1 Prestige
Militia Captain: +1 Prestige
Mayor: +3 Prestige
Book-keeper: +3 Prestige
Manager: +3 Prestige
Militia Commander: +3 Prestige
Hammerer: +5 Prestige
Sheriff: +5 Prestige
Captain of the Gaurd: +7 Prestige
Artifact Maker: +7 (+0 Prestige if this creates a Clan)
Champion: +9 Prestige (reserved for weapon-lords only)
General: +9 Prestige
Diplomat: +11 Prestige
Baron: +11 Prestige
Outpost Liaison: +13 Prestige
Count: +15 Prestige
Duke: +17 Prestige
Monarch: +20 Prestige
Per living member: +1
Per Sponsorship of a Forii +7
Per Ally (as fealty) +(1/2 the difference of Prestige of the Clan with the greater Prestige at the time of marriage)
As an addendum, any Clan affiliated dwarf who creates an artifact acquires a third name: the first two words of the artifact. Their Clan affiliation isn't changed, but their name will be recorded in history as the creators of that artifact. Example: "Alath Quickbird creates an artifact named "The Sands of Sorrow" His name is then changed to "Alath 'Sandssorrow' Quickbird", but his children and wife continue to just be named "Quickbird")
Infamy: The military road to Prestige
Sometimes horrors of the night, enemy nations or just berzerk citizens cause mayhem in a civilization. When that mayhem results in the direct deaths of citizens of The Kingdom, the bringers of that death gain infamy as enemies of the Kingdom itself. The individual who slays the murderer gains Prestige equal to the Infamy of the slain murderer - they (and any Clans they may be a part of) may brag about being the one who took the final blow, slaying the menace. The upshot of this is that any member of the Gentry who has not snagged a cushy Noble-person's position may instead decide to take a career in the military by joining the militia. As they train in the arts of war, they also may become weapon-lords, which allow them the shot at the position of "Champion". Regardless, by policing the various sites and protecting the industrious commoners, a Clan may yet gain Prestige from its otherwise mostly useless members.

Sounds complicated, but it really isn't. The world is made up of 40 large islands in the shape and position of Monopoly squares. They are separated by a cursed sea filled with freakish weather and undead monsters. Before the community succession game can begin, these islands must be linked together by a chain of 39 bridge forts, and the history of those bridge-forts will be the history of the world that Players will be inheriting when the game is ready to become a succession world.
Each year, the history of the Bridge-Building civilization will be updated and the links posted below. Likewise will the family trees of each Clan be updated, along with each Clan's Prestige (click on their coat of arms for easy reference). Finally, yearly shots of each bridge's progress will be provided.
WARNING: Do not attempt to read the entries here chronologically. The following post's image links lead to replies I've posted in this group - it won't make much sense if you attempt to read the posts in the order they were posted. This is a hyper-document format instead.
