Regarding caste breeding - A genetics-related question
« on: April 25, 2017, 06:04:41 pm »

If I have one creature with multiple castes, all of which are intended to breed male/female style and are divided into castes solely for flavor, will the various castes interbreed?

If so, will the offspring reflect the parents in any way? If Caste A, B, and C exist, and castes A+B produce offspring, will there be any chance of C?

Yes, you're right. A and B could marry and have C babies, or any other combination.

Gotcha, and thanks.

Now, I wasn't able to find anything on this, but can you define how likely each caste is to be born? I thought there was a way to define what percentage of a caste makes up a given entity (example, CIV X is made up of 50% A - 25% B - 25% C), is this the way to do that? Or am I crazy and this was never a thing?

I think you want the POP_RATIO tag.  Example:

[POP_RATIO:60]

It's a caste level tag that defines how common the caste is compared to others.  The number doesn't mean anything directly and is used as a ratio.  So, in your example:

[CASTE:A]
    [POP_RATIO:2]
[CASTE:B]
    [POP_RATIO:1]
[CASTE:C]
    [POP_RATIO:1]

should do what you're asking.
