Regarding the hypothetical F-420, we had the research credit and they didn't, so their plane has only 1/6 chance of being as good as ours. But the point I was arguing was that a two-tier cost advantage (Cheap vs Very Expensive) should nonetheless allow them to beat us with sheer quantity regardless of quality, as one of the repeatedly mentioned drawbacks of the Thunderbird was its lack of numbers.

Let's just hope Tereshkova can cast enough Magic, and our pilots aren't too stoned to Smoke MiGs Everyday.

We don't know if they used research credit or not.
Although I just checked and it doesn't say in our design if we used it or not too, so I dunno. It's still doubtful they can get a cheap jet, considering they have less non-specialized resources, IIRC.

It would be pretty insane of them to go for an Impossible design without being backed up by one. And you said that they didn't know it was Impossible before doing it, but I would argue that they should at least think that a tank with two major improvements (turboshaft engine and composite armour) was going to be at minimum Very Hard. Although I will grant that as the Cannalans have less players, they may be more prone to inflated ambitions.

And assuming that the F-420 has the same base cost as the Thunderbird (4 ore 1 Ti 4 oil), and the Cannalans revised the engine to be non-[Complex], it would be base Expensive as the Cannalans have Ti and 3 ore 3 oil. Then because of DEVIL WEED it gets to Cheap. At least it won't be Cheap on subsequent turns.

Let's assume they put out a Cheap Jet this turn because fuck us.

Next turn, it's Expensive because their Expense Credit ran out.  Our Jet (assuming we hold the jungle and they don't have a naval advantage) is also Expensive.  We spend the turn designing a second-generation jet, the Complex tag gets dropped because we have experience, jet drops to Cheap and we have a newer, even better jet.

This is all entirely hopeful speculation.

Plus the fact we are better with aircraft the same way they are better with ships so even if they deploy jets we''ll still probably win.

Revision: UFS-CV-40b 'Sea Lift' Pattern A

Based heavily off the Zheleznogorod, the Sea Lift is little more than a partially-completed carrier.  With basic engines and crew quarters, the majority of this ship is dominated by storage capacity allowing at least 3 TC.  A crane is fixed to the deck to allow cargo to be easily onloaded and offloaded.  A single Bumblebee flak cannon is mounted to the bow, and two AC18's flank the command tower for defense.

The Sea Lift performs three main functions; transporting raw resources for processing, carrying troops and equipment to the front lines, and acting as a hospital ship to move the wounded back to Forenia for treatment (this variant is unarmed and painted with a large red "+" to dissuade attackers).
The presence or absence of hospital ships isn't an important design detail, but I'll try to remember to mention it in the fluff.

Easy: 4
UFS-CV-50b 'Sea Lift':
This is a ship based on the Zheleznogorod hull, but used instead to transport cargo. It includes its own crane and is lightly armed with a Bumblebee and some AC18's. It provides 3 TC, and serves for general purpose logistics such as moving tanks and soldiers to areas with docks.  [6 Ore, 4 Oil]

Cutting them off the their titanium is a bigger deal now then getting vaguely closer to their capital; especially with them having turbo-shafts. Also there is a decent change attack the tundra will be easier then attack Cannala proper.
