AKA: How many things can I rip off today?
Well, Haspen's Spam games are just so damn fun, I've been itching for something more bite sized than Small Mercies, and I have a raging fan boner for Stargate, so here we are.
If you live under a rock and have not seen Stargate (or live under a slightly smaller rock and have seen the movie but not SG-1), here's the premise. Humans (At Tech Level: Ten Minutes past now) have managed to get an alien wormhole generator (A Stargate) working, through which they can venture to (many, VERY many) other ancient Stargates scattered across the cosmos. Hilarity and Kree ensues as they encounter alien races and dangerous phenomena!
You are going to be playing the individual locally in charge of the Stargate program.(Think General Hammond or Elizabeth Weir, not Colonel Jack O'Neill) So, first things first, who are you?
Name: (Can by anything humans are named. Granted, I will probably hurt you if you choose to be named Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz.)
Your Background: (What Name did before achieving his/her position.)
A.-Scientist: All your life you've struggled with the knowledge that your window on the world is minuscule in scale. Your past achievements in widening that window have highlighted you as one of the few people brilliant enough to unravel alien tech, which is why you're here.
B.-Soldier: You are career military, a soldier through and through. A solid grasp of tactics and a lifetime of war have taught you how to command men even when faced with literally alien threats.
C.-Politician: Silver tongued and a smooth diplomat, your friends and enemies both agree that you could sell rocks to moon-men, praise which has garnered you your current position on the front lines.
Stargate Program Backing: (Who is running the stargate program? This is not just you, but the people above you.)
A.- The Government: You're legitimately backed by the government, and while you're still a shadow program that the public is blissfully unaware of, you still get those sweet, sweet tax dollars. Of course, big brother is always watching. Your approval rating comes from providing demonstrable results in terms of technology and defense. [If you pick this, also add which government you're working for. (U.S.A, Australia, etc)]
B.- Private Entity: Your funding comes from some private third party with absurdly deep pockets and way too much knowledge. Funding is good, the collar around your neck is loose, but the morality, identity, and motives of your superiors is questionable. Your approval rating comes from fulfilling their specific objectives. [If you pick this, also add the name of your hosting entity. (The Starset Society, Totally Not an Evil Front, etc)]
Your Edge: (A bonus for the beginning, and occasional bonuses later on)
A.- Staffing: Your team is especially robust, with a wide variety of specialists in the wings and capable of rapid expansion.
B.- Approval: You have friends in high places, friends who can protect you if things go too far south.
C.- Tech: A cache of alien technology was uncovered along with the Stargate, giving you a head start on any side projects.
D.- Funding: Your war chest is deep, and you can breathe easy at least during your early years.
E.- Strength: The tactical teams available to you are top notch, kitted out with the latest weaponry and trained to some of the highest standards known to mankind.
