Modding Animal Men to be like Gremlins?

Is there a way to mod animal men to function like Gremlins? I really like how they can join your fort as citizens.

Giving animal men the [PET_EXOTIC] tag only causes world gen crashes.

Animal men pretty much are like gremlins because they both have the [LOCAL_POPS_CONTROLLABLE] and [LOCAL_POPS_PRODUCE_HEROES] tag. These tags allow the creature to join civs and be playable in adventure mode. Also adding [PET_EXOTIC] can be buggy when on a intelligent creature.

Funnily enough, unlike animal people (and gorlaks), gremlins don't actually have local_pops tags so it's s bit weird how they join other civs occasionally.
