Prophets: Trick the King!  (7/7)
« on: June 09, 2017, 08:02:08 am »

In this game, one player starts as the King, and the rest of the players start as Prophets. Each year (one round), the King will make a handful of important decisions, and will then ask the Prophets to make a prophecy for the coming year. However, only one Prophet will know what will happen, while the others will come up with false prophecies. The King chooses one of the prophecies to believe, and changes his decisions based off of it. After that, the outcome is revealed and the Prophet who was chosen becomes the new King.

7 is good. Too many players and some people might never be King. I'll update within a day.

I came across some last-minute balance issues I had to fix. The game should start tomorrow morning (Czech Republic time).

Year I - King zomara0292

Your kingdom is has seen better times, but it could be worse.
Public Opinion: 30
Treasury: 30
Development: 30
The Church's Power: 6
Merchants' Power: 13
Nobles' Power: 10
The neighbouring kingdom holds favorable views towards you. You currently have a trade route between you, adding 3 to the Treasury at the end of each turn.

Decisions

1. Your advisor approaches you with some interesting news. He explains that a painting in your collection is one of the lost works of a famous artist, who has requested its return. "You Majesty, this painter is seen as a hero by the peasants," your advisor tells you, "They used to be a farmer until their talent brought them to fame and fortune. Only one person knows we have this painting: the artist themselves, who now runs a public gallery in their hometown. What shall you do?"

 2. A representative from the Merchant's guild asks you for a favor. "Your Majesty, two days ago, one of our ships had its valuable cargo stolen by pirates on the way to Port Shougyn in the neighboring kingdom. We cannot let that happen again, and so we ask if you could send some of your men to guard the fleets of goods that we plan to send to Shougyn in the coming months. Don't worry, we will both profit from this exchange."

 3. You hear shouting as two figures enter the court. On the left is a scholarly-looking woman and on the right is a local priest. You silence them with a wave of your hand, and motion for the one on the left to speak. "Your Majesty, I have come here to ask for patronage," she says, " I wish to build a museum exploring the history of the previous inhabitants of our land, and how we may learn from what they have done." You turn to the priest. "Your Majesty, this is an outrage! Before us were only savages - heretics that worshipped false gods! There nothing to learn from them except how to fall back into the barbaric ways!" Before you have a chance to mull this over, an old man stumbles into the court, clutching a crooked walking stick and gasping for breath. "Perhaps there is another way, Your Majesty," he says. The other two turn to face him. "A compromise," he pants, "What if - before the museum is built - some of the money is sent as a tithe to the church?" The scholar frowns, and the priest strokes his chin thoughtfully. "It's your choice, Your Majesty," says the old man.

4. An ambassador from the neighboring kingdom is escorted by your advisor to your throne. The ambassador pulls out a scroll and reads, "Your Majesty, it has come to our Majesty's attention that a fishing vessel flying your colors has been found on our waters. They claim to have been caught by a sudden wind and stranded, but no nearby ship has validated their claim. A cursory search has revealed that they have fish on board, although they claim to have fished these in your waters. However, although our fishing regulations outlaw foreigners from fishing in our waters, we cannot bring them to land to seize their goods without docking forms, which they refuse to sign. Therefore, we have turned them over to you for punishment. We expect you to choose well." Your advisor leans in and whispers, "Be aware, Your Majesty, that this case has come to the attention of the public. The majority believe that the fishermen are tellling the truth, and that it would be wrong punish them."

5. A nervous-looking official stands before you. "I am- Your Majesty, I am responsable for an orphanage in the in the industrial sector. Recently-" He pauses to wipe some sweat from his brow. "A recent accident has increased our numbers beyond our capacity. I have some letters here for you - they are from people who wish to help, but require your permission. He hands you the envelopes. You read the first letter: "Your Majesty, my name is Vernen Adalhard, and I represent a group of philathropists who would be willing to help. One of our mansions is fit to be an orphanage, but it requires a small bit of renovation. If we could have a little extra funding, we could house the orphans that the original orphanage cannot." Putting that one aside, you read the next letter, "St. Adelaide's Nunnery would gladly provide ample room for the girls currently residing at Your Majesty's orphanage. This should clear enough room in the orphanage for those that remain. May the light show you the way."

((The OP has been updated with rebalanced rules.))

EDIT: For clarity, I changed the wording of things here and there.

Out of curiosity, what does "Public Opinion 30" means? Is it good? Is it bad? Is low number better? Same with other numbers, you haven't provided a scale to compare them against.

The first section in the rules describe this. It doesn't really matter what you're at, by the way - all that matters is if you're improving or worsening.
