Oh wait, I know the right answer: 2016 is obviously the scariest number, thankfully we won't see it come up again for 10,000 years, and by then the ice will have returned.

I used to be rather trixophobic (or however that phobia of the number 13 is spelled), but 30 is p. scary, age-wise.

I am in agreement with this post, what the hell was last year anyway?

Prime numbers are the scariest. Especially numbers which are the product of a prime number of primes.

11/09/2001

- 2001 is 3 * 23 * 29, a product of three, a prime number of, primes. And when you add up the digits in 3, 23, or 29 you get 3, 5, 11 which are all primes.

- 11 is prime, and 9 is a prime squared.

- 911 is also prime

- 911 is also a sum of three, a prime number, of consecutive primes - 293 + 307 + 311

Large cardinals or whatever is the silly mathematical thing that is not even a number anymore.

The scariest number is NaN although it is still occasionally useful.

Irrational numbers in general are scary, but I think Euler's number, e, is probably among the most scary, simply BECAUSE of its being the basis of the natural logarithm.

Why is that scary? Think about it more deeply, and ignore the utility of knowing and using it.  Every point on the number line, including prime numbers, can be expressed as a notation using this number and an exponent.

Oh god.

Here, have some nightmare fuel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgNDao7m41M

Transcendentals. Or maybe infinites, I dunno.
THAT'S what I was trying to remember!!! Definitely the scariest for me.

The null set is scarier.
This sounds like one of those things that gets more confusing the more you learn about it.

My age +1.

23.

Oh you meant scary, not most ridiculous. My bad.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/this-britain/23-fascinating-facts-about-the-number-twenty-three-6262624.html

Someone got the reference.

For all the weirdness around the number, I dunno, it just seems banal to me. 23 feels like one of those numbers you throw out at random when you need a number.

Showed my friend the Jim Carey movie, and the next day we went to Mexican for lunch, like we do every week. Our combined total bill, that's always the same because we always order the same things? $23.23. DUN DUN DUN. *violin squeal*

Triskaidekaphobic, not triskadelaphobic as I thought.
Coincidentally, 13 is 9 less than 22, which is 1 less than 23. My 23rd birthday is 180 days away from now, on 12/12/17, or 17.12.12 depending on preference.

Also, physicists such as Richard Feynman prefer 137. 1/137 is an approximation of the fine structure constant, Hawai'i consists of 137 islands, islets, and atolls,

1/137 = 0.00729927007299270072992700..., its period value is palindromic and has only a period length of 8.

0. I mean, it's a number that represents the absence of anything tangible. THAT is terrifying. Physicists these days aren't even 100% sure that such emptiness actually exists.

As an alternate perspective, it is also the biggest number, as it is the sum of all numbers both positive and negative.  All other numbers are just 0, but missing it's positive or negative counterpart.
