Building, Architecture, Megaprojects and other stuff
« on: June 16, 2017, 06:11:39 am »

This is a thread to ask for advice on general building and share your builds, megaprojects etc. This thread is more about the aesthetics of buildings then weapon trap designs, but a giant !!trap maze!! is always appreciated.

Here is my question:
If I build a house with a roof made of walls like this
Code: [Select]
  rWWWr
  W   W

(sideview, W=wall r=ramp)
Will invaders be able to get in?

Tests are required but my guess is yes. They can stand on the ramp, hold the wall under them and drop inside
Something like this would be safer :

Code: [Select]
rWWWr
WW WW

Invaders can't travel diagonally vertically.

Tho I'm not sure pathfinding recognize this as a possible path, I am fairly sure it is a possible move. While Fig.1 is not allowed, Fig.2 I believe is. Ramps do not block movement as far as I know... So if it works, it would only be due to a faulty pathfinding imho

Gonna test that actually

Oh...

So it's
.XXXX
A    A
X    X

Not

AXXXXA
X    X

The second one can't be entered. The first can, and also doesn't work as ramps either.

My bad, bad figures. It was just my humble guess anyway, you're most probably right

So I kind of tested it and stuff can't get out of this kind of building, but I'm not sure if it can get in.

Another question, can catapults shoot down?

Rocks from a catapult do follow more or less parabolic arcs, but I don't know if they can aim down.

Wiki says catapults won't fire at something if not on the same z lvl as target.

I'm wondering wether copper blocks are dwarfy enough for a megaproject or if I should make it out of copper bars, which I won't have enough.

The metal block:bar ratio is 1:1 - Each bar turns into a single block.

Why not just have mason make native copper blocks instead?  You get 4 blocks without using fuel.

I can confirm this is inaccurate.  Catapults can target across zeds, but I believe they do function similar to crossbow & ballista in that zeds traveled is subtracted from total distance, so being on high ground is actually a disadvantage, technically.
