Divinity (IC Thread) - Summer, Year 1
« on: June 21, 2017, 02:19:48 pm »

OOC Thread

Far above the World upon which humanity calls home, you and four other beings flare into existence. You glance around at these new surroundings not through the confused eyes of a newborn child, but through the eyes of an ancient, omnipotent being.

Several things become clear to you as you "awake".

Firstly, you are aware that the beings known as humans have willed you into being. Your existence is the amalgamation of each tribe's faith and belief, and it is this faith and belief which sustains your consciousness. You know innately that it is your purpose to guide these humans along their path, if for no other reason than self preservation. You are keenly aware that the death of your believers would lead to your "death".
Secondly, you are aware that this realm is immaterial. You and the four other beings around you do not truly "exist" here, it is simply where the combined faith of your five tribes coalesced to form you. You are innately aware that this realm, which you have decided to call the Throne of the World, is yours to control as you see fit, and that creating things here is as simple as willing it into being. However, you are also aware that the things you create here are immaterial like yourself, and therefore unable to be moved directly to Humanity's world without the active use of the belief that sustains you.
Finally, you know and understand that five beings such as yourself being "created" at the exact same moment by five different tribes is astronomically unlikely. You know that this must mean that there is a greater force at play, and the fact that you don't know about it in your omnipotence can only mean a being more powerful than you is actively hiding it. While this thought disconcerts you, you innately know that you could discover this being if you wished to dedicate the time to looking.

You glance around the realm in which you now reside. The landscape seems endless in each direction, fading to white after several kilometers. You and your fellow deities stand around what seems to be a large pool filled with viscous liquid. You know that simply willing this pool to focus on the planet below you will reveal its landscape to you.

With your bearings gathered, you know that you must now set to work. It will be up to you to guide your primitive tribe to enlightenment to ensure your survival. With another careful glance at each of your potential allies/adversaries, you set to work.

"I burn alive. Greetings, my fellow gods. I, Endion, the Spark, greet you. What say you?"

Endion uses the pool to view the current state of his tribe.

Endion uses the pool to view the current state of his tribe.
You focus upon the pool, and it responds to your thoughts. You get an aerial view of the Zekki Zakki as they go about their usual business. The village, if you could call it that, is nothing more than twenty or thirty tents arranged in a rough circle around a blazing bonfire. This bonfire, you realize, is their primary tool of worship for you. They seem to dump a portion of every meal and hunt into the inferno as a sacrifice of sorts.

Of this village of 100 people, more than sixty percent are foraging in the nearby woods for food. They clearly do not understand Agriculture at this point, and as such rely on hunting and gathering to feed themselves.

"Hm."

Do they cook food? Actually, what's their tech level in general?

They seem to cook their meat, but most vegetables and berries they eat raw.

In general, they are just becoming a civilization. They have basic structures in the hide tents you witnessed earlier, they wear basic clothing made of animal hide, and seem to carry around basic tools made of wood, stone, or bone. They weave baskets for food storage, but that is about the limit of their technological prowess.

"No metal tools? Well, I can fix that."

A flow of power. Suddenly, a large chunk of copper ore materializes within the flame. The fact that the fire suddenly turns purple, temporarily, should ensure that people are paying attention.

A flow of power. Suddenly, a large chunk of copper ore materializes within the flame. The fact that the fire suddenly turns purple, temporarily, should ensure that people are paying attention.
*roll*
Within your mind, you imagine a new material. A malleable, light one that can be hardened further to create durable armour, tools and weapons. You imbue it with the colour of smoldering embers before turning your focus to the great bonfire within the village. The influx of power causes the flames to double in size, terrifying the nearby villagers. The scurry away, terrified of your wrath.

Once your power has hit its peak, you force the material into being. Doing so allows you to feel your power draining, but by the end your creation sits within the flames, causing them to take on a purple hue.

*roll*
The village shaman moves to the front of the crowd and begins to speak to them. He tells the people that this is not a sign of your wrath, but a sign of your kindness. He walks toward the fire, and using the stick he seems to use as a staff, swiftly knocks the metal from the inferno. It smolders on the ground, and he declares it a relic. They intend to build a shrine next to the bonfire to store it.

Endion will receive a minor increase to Belief generation once it is complete.
You feel drained from your creation. Creating something from nothing is difficult, even for a being such as yourself.

"Hopefully... that will get easier."

Do I have enough power to shape the metal into an axehead?

You ponder the limits of your power. You believe you could probably shape the metal into an axehead, but It would most likely leave you too drained to do anything further this season, and there is no guarantee your people would understand what it is or how to use it. You weigh your options.

Well, do they use axes? If they do, shape the metal into an axehead. If they don't... speak through the fire, if sufficient power is available.

"As bone tools are better than wood tools, and stone tools are better than bone tools, tools made of my gift to you are better than stone tools."

"As bone tools are better than wood tools, and stone tools are better than bone tools, tools made of my gift to you are better than stone tools."
You realize that a tribe which does not cut wood would likely not properly understand an axe. You decide instead to speak to them directly through the fire. Such an act is trivial for a being like you, and you feel a very negligible drain on your power by doing so.

The fire flares again, doubling in height as your power enters it. Again, this scares the people, but they have learned that this flare is your way of speaking to them directly. The shaman comes close to the fire and drops onto his knees within a deep bow to you.

"Oh mighty Endion! We serve you in life in order to become one with your flames in death! What would you ask of us, Your most humble servants?"

"As bone tools are better than wood tools, and stone tools are better than bone tools, tools made of my gift to you are better than stone tools."

*roll*
He glances at the hunk of metal which still lays smoldering on the grass nearby, confused.

"My lord, we can not use that to create clubs, baskets or slings. How would you ask us to use it? Worship? Sacrifice?"

"Now, it is hard and unshapeable. Within a sufficiently hot flame, it can be shaped. As for what to make with it?" Shape part of the flame into an axehead for a moment. "As a spearhead is for a spear, an axehead is for an axe. With an axe, you can acquire wood far easier, taking it directly off a tree."

"As a spearhead is for a spear, an axehead is for an axe. With an axe, you can acquire wood far easier, taking it directly off a tree."
((Just as a note, they really don't know what a spearhead is. Their version of spears would pretty much be sharpened branches))

"Now, it is hard and unshapeable. Within a sufficiently hot flame, it can be shaped. As for what to make with it?"

You manipulate the flame into an axehead. The shaman stares at it intently as you continue:

"As a spearhead is for a spear, an axehead is for an axe. With an axe, you can acquire wood far easier, taking it directly off a tree."

*roll*
The shaman rises to his feet and gestures for two men standing behind him to come forward. They do so, and copy the bow the shaman had done before as they near the flames. He sends the first off for a piece of wood, and the second off for a piece of sharp stone.

When they return, he tells the first man, which you deduce as their best crafter, to carve the wood into the shape which hovers in the fire. After some time chipping away at the wood, he raises it above his head as he drops to his knees. It looks very similar to the image you had created in the fire.

The shaman again speaks,
"Is this what you wish for us to make, oh mighty Endion? Is it with this that we can take wood from the great trees?"

"It is the correct shape, if not the right material. An axehead made of wood will likely not suffice to take wood from a tree. An axehead made of stone may work, but an axehead made of my gift will work far better. That said, an axehead alone will not work. It will need to be attached to a stick like so..." Display a completed axe in the fire.

A completed axe forms within the fire.

*roll*
The shaman gestures to the second man to go and bring them stone, a branch, and the dried animal tendons they use as rope. Once he returns, the crafter begins to shape the stone in the same way as he did the wood.

Roughly an hour passes before the crafter puts the finish on his primitive axe. The finished product is about 3/4 of a meter in length, with a rock axehead pushed through the top of a branch and bound in place. He passes it to the shaman, who again gets on his knees and holds the axe aloft.

"By your grace, we have completed your tool. We will use it to take the wood from the great trees, our lord."
He turns towards the crafter, handing him the axe, and sends him and several others off to create more of these tools.

The Zekki Zakki have learned how to make basic stone axes. This will allow them to gather lumber with practice.
