"Sans Serif" is a... well, not a font style I think, but a specific class of visual style of font. Specifically, without adornments - i.e. what "sans serif" actually means. So that a capital T doesn't have extra 'ledges' hanging off the top bar, etc.

The problem with sans serif, is that if applied to everything it makes the capital letter I indistinguishable from the lowercase letter L, as both are essentially a vertical line.

It's got the little extra fance at the ends of lines. Sans means "without". If I forget to bring my lunch to work today, I am sans food until I get home.
