Funniest things said in dialogues
« on: July 09, 2017, 09:31:03 am »

I just love DF dialog system. It's so open to interpretations, sometimes things being said are hilarious, and sometimes really dark and deep. I would love to see the funniest/weirdest/deepest talks you have encountered and your take on their interpretations.

My adventurer overheard some farmer dwarf in a drinking mound:

I guess he was bragging about being attacked, but then keeping it cool by saying that his "attacker" was nothing special. The other dwarf just ignored him the whole time, and that's... understandable.
I also had some free time and inspiration so i decided to draw the "incident" farmer talked about.

"You are a dangerous animal. You are also a pleasure to speak with, but this has come between us!"

Makes me laugh every time, even as the entire village slaughter me with their carving knives (result of forgetting to remove megabeast or maybe large_predator tags when adding playable civilized beasties).

I'm glad you liked it!

Feel sorry for my minotaur, who was judged for some "tags" but not his actions. He was forced to live in exile all by himself, just because he's different. And of course he fell a victim to a bogeyman, and humans and their prejudices are to blame!

But my all time favourite is Threbe, full story

"In the time before time, somebody slew somebody"

People say that sometimes in worlds that are young.
Nice! :D

I don't remember how it was put, but a nobleman once warned me my dancing was causing problems between us and the neighbours, and he hopes my friends can dissuade me from such foolery.

Once I had a random adventurer who talked to the local lady, and my adventurer said:

"My third eldest daughter is named Arkur Fortuneweakness. She is also my aunt."
This is either incest or a time paradox. Possibly both. I can't be sure.
Only in Dwarf Fortress can such a thing happen.

In a time before time they didn't have all their begats in order. Maybe his eldest daughter married his uncle? Or his aunt, if that's how it works.

I'm pretty sure that she indeed married his uncle. Dwarves won't marry only with close relatives (i think, game considers 'close' only as siblings), but distant relatives can marry just fine. It is even possible in Fortress Mode, if uncle is much younger than his nephew, so he can be no more than 10 years apart with nephew’s daughter. As for worldgen, age difference doesn't matter at all, so such marriages can occur even easier. I wonder if dwarves have their version of My Daughter Is My Own Aunt song.

Reminds me of Multiworld Madness. Or whatever that forum game was called. Ability: target attacks you. Target: iron golem possessing you. Effect: fist to own face.
