Hammer Blow doesn't have any contingencies for if Jupiter's group encounters resistance at Blackstone. Or if Ophidian's group encounters resistance at the demi-spire. Neither of those are very unlikely. We should probably have some contingencies planned, like have Causinae and Natalie IX escort Jupiter until they get to TC, then switching to their coordinated fire tactics. Not sure to what extent we can use conditional tactics like this though.

I believe we've killed off their pirates, meaning interceptors will have to get past TC. Thus i feel an interception at Blackstone is unlikely.

Ophidian will only engage Wrethi ships if they attempt some sort of "Wide Net" strategy, or if the Wrethi just so happen to attack TC at the same time as us. The first is more likely, but has a higher chance of survival (as we would only be facing a third of their anti-piracy fleet) whilst the second is less likely but pretty much a death sentence.

Easten Wrethan Demi-Spire

There is no report from the raiding party returning from the Wrethan demi-spire.

Three Captains

Before the Battle Barge arrives, another Wrethan scouting skiff is discovered and ambushed in the aerosphere around the Three Captains. While the incident happens early in the year, it still fosters paranoia among the defense fleet.

The Jupiter arrives without incident, however, and disgorges its landing fleet to make the first engagement with the Wrethan marines in years.

Inside the Spire

The Wrethan's have not spent their time idly. Despite not being reinforced in years they retain a numerical advantage over the landing marines, and have apparently spent nearly all of their time building fortifications. The wooden kits they've used previously to erect mobile fortifications have been used to create barricades of native stone, set with firing ports for both men and cannon.

It's an impressive, and daunting, obstacle, but it doesn't change one simple fact: The Wrethan military tech is years out of date.

The new pistols, sling thrown grenades, upgraded shrouds, and bronzewood shields make all the difference. The mobile shrouds are of particular importance, providing the only defense against the four Aether cannons counted among Wreth's defensive line. The assault marines conserve as much energy as possible, activating the shrouds in response to cannon fire and allowing the bronzewood shields to observe gauntlet fire. To combat aether depletion, they end up rotating mobile shrouds in and out of service, which while it only affords slow progress, is enough.

With the cannons accounted for, the tide is decided by the merits of the infantry equipment- a scale which is fully weighted in the favor of Kasgyre. The bronzewood shields block crossbow bolts and gauntlet fire, grenades shatter fortifications, pistols provide accurate and powerful counterfire against gauntlets and light crossbows, and Witch-Hunters snipe with impunity.

The Wrethan fortifications allow the defenders to make an orderly retreat, and to dramatically reduce their losses, but the marines are definitely making up ground. Once the Wrethans are forced out of the fortifications they've made, their losses should skyrocket. Of further note is the lack of efficacy of the flanking teams, which will likely continue until the defenders are removed from their fortifications.

Neither side has gained or lost ground

Confirmed kills: At least a quarter a Wrethan Squad
Losses: 50% of squad Delta.

Burned Mountain

The one-eyed will reports no activity in its airspace.

Inside the Spire

Within the Burned Mountains, the surviving marines report in as being sweaty but alive.

Spire Kasgyre

The Dionysus returns to Spire Kasgyre, and another Natalie skiff is produced at the dockyards.

It is now the beginning of the year 375 AR.

Spire Kasgyre's Production stands at
13(+10)/y Crystal, 24/115 Banked
17/y Ore, 18/85 banked
19/y Wood, 26/95 banked
10/y Silk, 10/50 banked

It is now the design and project maintenance phase. You have 5 dice to spend.

We should start a design with our event bonus now. It has to be an important design.

-Medium docks (viper production line)
-Aeronauts training
-Marine training
-Marine equipment production line
-Teach common vatters how to make royal topaz
-A bigger class of warship

These are all the designs I can think of that could be important enough to spend the event bonus on. Leaning towards medium docks.

-A bigger class of warship

One of these two, I think. Widespread topaz improves everything we have, while a bigger ship is great.

-Topaz vats
-Pilot training

My votes.

It's been a while, what event bonus are you referring to?

I'd also suggest a Military Reserves design, allowing unequipped marines to be used to replenish damaged squads. That way the resources spent on marine equipment last longer, thus we have spend less resources, thus we have more for development.

Seeing as we just lost a viper without so much as even a report back, I think we should invest it in a VPL.

It would be our second time around designing a VPL, which should make it significantly better on top of our event bonus to the rolls. We could make a true titan of industry here.

@Draignean
Squads Beta, Gamma, and Delta should only have 1 squad of nades.
Causinae and Natalie IX should have escorted Jupiter to Three Captains.
There was no mention of the ships strafing to soften up a landing zone.

That is anything missed of incorrect that I can think of.

Burned Mountain Survival Kit
Burned Mountain had two main risks. This design is intended to deal with both and ensure a smooth occupation of the spire. Crystals convert energy from one form to another.  Ambient Aether to electricity. Electricity to light. Electricity to kinetic. Electricity to heat.  It is logical to assume that heat can be converted into other forms as well. Thus our first item in the kit: The Cooling Crystal. Designed to stud the inside of clothing, such as a long coat, or attached to water canteens, these crystals should help our marines survive the oppressive temperatures. Second is a charcoal air filter, intended to go in a mask on the face. This will filter out the toxins in the air. Finally, mining canaries are issued to marine squads entering the spire, you act as an early warning system for toxic gas.  Together, these three items should turn Burned Mountain from a sweltering death trap to merely unpleasant. They should be available as a set and as individual pieces, as other engineers have realised their uses outside of Burned Mountain.

The mask would also protect our aeronauts from the flaming spitball fumes.
The cooling crystals would help our marines continue a charge after grenades have superheated the air.

You should include canaries (the bird) there. As an indicator of when to put on your mask so marines don't have to wear it all the time. Gas masks usually aren't great for combat performance.

Once we get the AIM built, a single revision will let us use it to disperse toxic gas instead of aether mist. Should let us push into the burned mountain handily.
