Vahn thought for a moment.

"I can accompany the scouts. The forests are my territory; when I walk their trails, no one will see me unless I wish them to. Additionally, if our cover story is Yuri helping train, it would more sense for me to not be among that group."

"Yes, I think that will do. I'll head out into the woods shortly and keep an eye on things."

He glanced over at Seraphiel.

"I won't take any risks I don't have to. There's no point in revealing our hand early. That being said, should we decide on a signal?"

: While it is important that we recover the steel, I insist that you at least take the chance to sleep now. From what I've heard you had a rough day and if anything goes wrong we'd need all of you in top form. We will have time to go before dawn.

"...About that, could I be one of the scouts? Llamrei is very quick and I would like to be able to help find the spy."

"Don't worry, Felicia. Vahn is going to be there to protect me... And if anything happens, I'll be there to protect him too."

Vahn nodded.

"Seraphiel is stronger than he looks, miss Felicia."

He didn't want to say much more complimentary; not because Seraphiel didn't deserve it, but because to do so would be to break character in front of the civilians. He figured the kid would understand, and if he didn't, it would be a good lesson to discuss later with him and Braoul.

Vahn's face remained passive, but inwardly, he chuckled to himself.

So it's like that, is it?

: Very well then. Until tomorrow.

The meeting adjourned, the group and the townspeople each went to their own place, to finally rest for the day.

The next day, Theodor waked them up earlier than usual. It was still dark outside.

: Fellas... *yawn* Yuri is waiting for you for training. I made you some rations, now I'm goin' back to sleep for a bit.

Yuri was indeed waiting outside with his horse pulling a small wagon full of crates.

: Ready? This shouldn't take too long with all of us.

Once again the group, sans Vahn, set to the warehouse. The travel there was uneventful at best, and when they finally arrived they found out the crates were full of rocks to act as the decoys. It didn't take long until all the usable steel in the warehouse was replaced with the decoy crates, but dawn was approaching. The return trip was as uneventful as the first one, and they reached Kovitz again without so much as a hitch. The retrieval had gone successfully and Evelyn started working on new weapons as soon as all the steel was hidden away in the smith.

And as it was already dawn, the first scouts were getting ready to set out and start bringing the decoy crates back one by one, without knowing what they were carrying, but expecting to be ambushed, while Vahn scoured the forests all the while.

The day was almost over, and all the scouts, including the team Seraphiel and Felicia had made, returned without news of any ambush. Not only that, Vahn had seen no trace of bandits, not a single rustling leaf. This day there was no bandit activity at all. The mercenary group had had the whole day free to train, socialize, bond with their mounts or other people or just do nothing and rest.

But there was still something left. Evelyn finally got out of the blacksmith's building and went to find someone from the group.

During the day, Braoul spent his time hunting for animals in the forest. Although he spent most of his day on this he was not able to find a bear to kill, although he was able to stitch together an intimidating cloak from the pelts of what he did catch. Towards sunset he went back into town and sought out Miss Evelyn.
So, have you finished?
