Weather?
« on: August 07, 2017, 11:56:42 am »

When i play adventure mode, i keep tapping the W-eather button, but I have no idea how it effects the gameplay.

So my question is: What effects does the weather have on gameplay?
ps: not just the obvious evil weather, but also mundane things like rain and clouds.

(Is the stealth factor increased or whatever? ... Im eagerly listening)

Hm. Well, if you're in hot enough area, falling rain might bleed you to death even after getting underground. Rain will also refill murky pools and rivers.

Other effects are a bit more mundane...I think you can pick up snow in adventure mode, and I guess your stealth is better when moon/sun is obscured by the clouds.

Wind is per latitude, and affects how much power one gets from windmills, 20 or 40. Adventure mode, it's useful for picking up scents for tracking things.

Ultimately, the above is very little given how deep DF simulates weather, but still useful at times.

Bleed to death? Like boiling water burns..?

That it effects scent is real nice!

Yeppers. I'm not sure it can occur with default worldgens, though.

I think you would be dead before then if it was that warm... But still awesome though!
Sounds like fun...

Oh you can stay outside in inhospitable temperatures briefly even if it would kill you eventually.

Can't remove the rain on you, though, and each coating heats you on its own. It's very deliberate sort of fun, since you pretty much have to set out to make a world with it.

one effect that comes in handy in adv mode is that rivers ect. freeze, making it easy to cross them.

And oh so fun when they suddenly freeze while you're swimming across them...

I've never found a river I haven't been able to jump across (By sprinting)

Then you probably haven't encountered a major river. The maximum river width is 46 tiles (92 meters).
