More a hanger-on than a stalwart ally, it's still useful to have another pair of hands. He goes by the name of Tom Cony

Oops, missed that bit. Thanks.

Looking for a gate or sending Tom Cony after him both seem sensible options, so I'm fine with either.

Tom Cony runs up to the wall and makes a good attempt at climbing: he manages to get to the top before his belt snags on a spike, leaving him dangling half over the other side.

"Err, a little help here, cove," he says.

Jump up onto the wall and help him down.
Discreetly shove him the rest of the way over the wall.
Leave him there.
Get someone else to help him down.

You just can't find good help these days.;)

I think that, since we are somewhat agile, we should jump onto the wall and help him down.

You take a running leap at the wall, grab hold of one of the spikes, and pull yourself up to the top of the wall. Up close you can see that the man's belt has wrapped itself around a spike. You make quick work of the worn leather and help the man down to the other side.

"Thanks, yer a bene cove," he mumbles as you both set right on the other side of the wall, in an unkempt rosebed that could have done without two pairs of boots landing on it.

A decrepit town house looms above the garden, hemmed in by the sprawling tenements on either side. A large bay window is broken inwards, fresh mud caked on the sill.

1. Follow Jack in through the window.
2. Knock on the back door for the owner.
3. Shoot the lock off of the back door.

I think with our quick-witted thinking, maybe we can knock on the back door for the owner, thereby causing a distraction?

I think, considering that the house seems rather derelict, we should just follow in Jack through the window. If the owner or another resident is there, he or she will probably be busy with the lad we're chasing, and if the only person in the house is Jack, knocking on the door just wastes time.

On the other hand, there's always the possibility that Jack already cleared the room behind the broken window in a hurry, which leaves us entering in hot pursuit just as the homeowner, attracted by the noise, enters the room with a weapon.  That's likely just the pessimist in me, though it feels narratively appropriate.

Still, I agree that following Jack through is the best of the three options.
