A Poem of Justice and Revenge | [3/3]
« on: January 16, 2019, 12:08:34 am »

Moonlight shines, bars slanted.

The King’s chest heaves, breaths panted.

Scarlet patterns on the pillow,

                Cardinals out of season.

Herbsmoke stains the window,

                Desperation beyond reason.

Breath and Froth

                heartbeat and blood

                                Life and death

The latter waxes

                The former wanes

                                The Crown slips

And shatters.

Moonlight dies, vanquished in the sun

A king dies, vanquished by his son.

Four servants, innocent all

                Sit imprisoned

                                Within their dead King’s hall.

The grief consumes,

                The rage sustains,

Betrayed and broken,

                Loyal they remain.

A duty new they vow to take,

A justice, a vengeance, a pact they make:

To bring justice for their master

to avenge a friend

                the heart of his son

From the boy's chest they’ll rend.

Sit you as one of four.

                A blade of a king.

                                A blade without a king.

A blade that seeks a final home.

When your breath stills

When hue of life does fade

And warmth of life ebbs and chills,

What words with the Reaper will you trade?

1.   Let vengeance come upon my foes
2.   Watch over those I leave behind
3.   Even if my flesh be departed, let my will carry on
4.   Take what you will of me, but do not let me die this day

A blade is forged of flame

                                                Coals black and embers red

A life hammered and hardened by pain and shame

Yet from those who know you

                                                E’en love you

What is the best that can be said?

1.   Your honor never flagged nor faded, resolute against the darkness
2.   There was no challenge you could not meet, given time
3.   Though there is none left close enough to you to say it, you will always endure
4.   Doubt never clouded your mind, and clarity was always a beacon of your mind

A sorrowed tear, weeping raw

The loss of liege eats at your heart

A blind and ugly parasite with jagged maw

Yet what manner of tears do fall

For a man that you honored above all?

1.   A poet’s tears, for the betrayal of a good man by his own blood
2.   A soldier’s tears, for the loss of a comrade in arms
3.   A confidant’s tears, never filling the void he left in thine heart
4.   A child’s tears, full of rage and denial that you cannot bring him back

Last of all

                More important than all

Where do you go

                When the prince does fall

                                When the blade stills

                                                When the storm fades

And all vengeance and rage

                Justice and hate

                                Tears and blood

Are done at last

Where do you see your shadow cast?

1.   I see no end where I still stand tall enough to have a shadow cast
2.   Let my shadow fall behind a better man, worthy of my loyalty
3.   Across a far shore, beyond the reach of this blooded life
4.   On the grave of my master, before I cut one final time and let it join him

Three blades sit, sheathed unwilling within iron and stone.

In silence they wait an opportunity to run

In silence they mourn the absence of one.

One blade gone, taken unwilling for imaginary sins to atone.

When the confessor came, she was silent.

When the torturer came, she was silent.

                                                The noose was drawn

                                The crowd was called

When they jeered and blamed her, she was silent.

When the rope was about her throat and the floor did drop

Finally a single sound she made

                                                                A snap and a pop

                Then silent forever she stayed

Three blades sit, sheathed unwilling within iron and stone.

One blade pale as moonlight and wild within as the wolfnight

One blade of plainest steel, but invincible against the wear of battle

One blade hewn of ironstone and carved justice's image

One blade hanging, swaying uncaring as lifeless blood and bone.

A flame flickers and shadows dance

Barred steel striking stone with sparkless sable-blows

A Jailor draws close to cell’s entrance

Three iron-masked bearers walk behind with food bowls

Armed by steel, yet relaxed in stance

Masked eyes glitter with contempt and blame

They think you traitor and Kingbane.

Once they feared, rigid as wire in all moves,

hoping never to have truth proved.

Yet now that hangman’s rope has broken blade

That fear has fast begun to fade.

The slop your bowls, drawing much too near

Boys playing at the edge of broken pier

                                A daring display

                                                A foolish display

To dance upon a half-sheathed blade.

The Jailor stands among them

                Back a little way

Whether fear or prudence guides him,

                That you cannot say.

Freedom’s keys are at his belt,

Vengeance’s blades are at their hips.

      Opportunity’s poor hand is dealt,

And all the dice are showing pips.

Here you stand against your revenge’s first opponent,

Caught within a single crystal moment.

                                To fight

                                To resist

                                To avenge

Or take the gallows plunge and let it be your final end.

I'm guessing that we're free moving now, not just "poemchoice" movement? If so...

"F*** it." he growled, lunging for the guard's iron blade. That one was HIS. He had swung it in many a battle and though simple it had never failed him. And it wouldn't fail him again.

I didn't check Bay12 since school started. My bad if I inadvertently killed the game. In case this is still ongoing:

Wrestle away the keys. We must be free.

PTW.

I once tried to run a poetry-based forum game, but it failed. Now I will live vicariously through this one.
