Spencer had fled and there were no enemies in sight, so Leon promptly turned his attention to the lovebirds. It was impossible to see the soldier's face and hard to see his eyes thanks to his helmet, but his voice was calm when he spoke.

"I'm Leon, a recruit in the army. I met Dain earlier." He quickly introduced himself to Elanore before turning his gaze to Dain.

"Is that your sweetheart?"

"Of course you don't," Mydis said in the sweetly unconvinced tone of a parent faced with a child denying that they'd chipped their father's firewood-chopping axe. "So, if I get one of my squadmates, they'll also say they've never seen you before?"

Though she was making as if to call into the next room, she knew by the sound of fighting and how eager he'd been to jump into the fray that he wouldn't hear her.
