Gotta say, bad UI is one complaint I don't have. It works fine in my experience. It even has convenient little gimme features, like making cards glow if they're valid for a slot when you click it. The only thing that I think is a missed opportunity is going with cards for everything, instead of having a pile of assorted keys and lanterns and books and scraps of paper all over your desk. But of course that would have exploded the budget, and it's purely aesthetic rather than gameplay or story, so I can see why they would put that at a lower priority.

Yeah I get it that the UI is no accident, but what I'm saying is that it is a bad design. I get it that conveys a message, for example, how easy it is to forget about having a job you need to attend on a regular basis when you are going crazy with the occult. I just think that using a messy UI to convey that message is a bad user experience that needlessly frustrates the players. I'm fine with obscure mechanics and story and lack of holding your hand, but bad UI just annoys me. It starts to feel too much like work. Which is a reason I'm annoyed by grinding too.

It's only messy if you don't organise things well.

...and that's the part that feels like a job or grinding.

It also aptly represents the cultist experience, the pile of questionable papers and things forgotten and the madness.

That said, apparently the experimental branch had a lock-to-grid option.

Somehow I feel like I'm actually utilizing space worse because of it though.

So just to put this out there: I want no game spoilers. I just kind of want to vent.

I know everyone has kind of poo pooed the game after they've beaten it, in retrospect. But I kinda gotta finish it just to know, none the less. But yeah, once you have ground out all the lores, explored the Mansus and done enough Expeditions, there isn't actually a lot of variability in game play. More just a laundry list of content to encounter, which isn't anywhere near as fun or interesting the second and umpteenth times you encounter it.

I would say solving the Riddle is the best part of the game, since doing it efficiently requires you to synthesize knowledge of the lore with your mastery of the game mechanics.

The stuff that follows is just... not that interesting by comparison.
