FEF: Death to Traitors: Chapter 5

~Fire Emblem on Forums: Death to Traitors~

OOC Thread

The year is 1642. Summer is fading into Autumn. Retired Veteran and former war hero, Joi Hart, has stolen a pair of incredibly powerful weapons. Nullification Tomes. Though no two are exactly the same, their functions are essentially identical- to produce a field capable of annihilating a large area around the epicenter of the spell. Entire cities could be wiped from the map by such a weapon- And may very well be, if the tomes aren't recovered. More to the point, Hart has absconded to Govitz, the only counterbalance to Ersht's power in the world. At this moment, the Nullification Tome is the only concrete advantage Ersht has to hold over Govitz. However, this can only be true so long as Govitz does not have the same arcane knowledge. Such power in Govitian hands would be devastating to the strategic position of all nations. To this end, a promising young soldier has been selected, along with a handful of specialist combatants, to infiltrate Govitz, hunt down Hart, and recover the Nullification Tomes. This is that story, and it is for your eyes only.

Jack stood at the bow of the Broken Halo, a small sailing vessel disguised as a pirate ship. The crew were Ervalt navy personnel- One in fact that Jack had once assisted with a scouting mission three years ago. Routine, and hush hush, but they'd stuck out in his mind when he'd received his orders to put together a crew. So had several others. Those he'd chosen to assist him in his mission were known, either to him or the Ersth government, to be capable and intelligent, even if... Eccentric in some cases. They, like him, were also non-essential personnel. As the Broken Halo pushed its way through the water, Jack breathed slowly, measured, and even. His mind was awash in his mission. He still had to brief his team. They all knew... some, at least. That they'd be infiltrating Govitz. That Joi Hart, the hero of the War of Annihilation, was involved. That they were after a defector. That they were in pursuit of stolen weapons. And now that they were out to sea, this would be the time to have that discussion. But not just now. It would have to be soon, as they were already in the sovereign waters of Goivtz. But not just now.

All players are in! Mounts are below deck.

Keyleth sat on the deck with her back to one of the railings, sharpening the business end of her lance. It was already just about razor-sharp, but the quiet young woman was a perfectionist. She wouldn't stop until it could split hairs, or until her employer gave an order.

Rune stared out at the sea as she leaned against the railing, a frown on her face. They were returning to her homeland, but she would not be a welcome sight for many of the people who knew her there. She pulled a crumpled piece of paper from her pocket, and read over it once again.

"Continue the course. The time is near. Do not forget where you came from.

Meaningless to her now. Since she'd been captured and turned, the messages she received were reported to her handler and she was told how to respond. She knew she should be angry, but she couldn't make herself feel much of anything. It didn't much matter who she was reporting to because at the end of the day, she was still a pawn for those in power to move around as they pleased.

Turning back away from the sea, she stuffed the paper back into her skirt's pocket, and glanced around. She put her hand out in front of her and began to make small sparks dance around, practicing her control of light magic as she tapped into a small tattered tome. It was useless for anything but tricks, but she'd learned how to use those tricks to her full advantage. And she supposed this trip would be a test of that.

Theodore looks out proudly over towards their destination, a smug, confident expression on his face and a hand on both hips.

It had been a while since he'd sailed out so far. A while since his godly talents were needed in this part of the world.

Of course, people always needed his godly talents. They just needed to realise it first.
"The moment for my godly talents to shine draws near..."
He chuckles to himself.

Elanee sighed, stretching her arms while walking a lap around the boat. Flicking through a small tourism booklet on Govitz for the 5th time this hour, she sighed and put it away, casting a glance at the crew and party. She knew what she was getting into, but it was just so cramped on the boat and she had literally nothing to do, all of her academic work moved to other personnel, and it wasn't as though she could even take anything into Govitz in case.. Better to not think about that.

It had been 20 years since Evra Opus had been in Govitz, and she'd be lying if she didn't feel a sense of nostalgia coming back. Except this time she wouldn't have to deal with being transferred all over the place. Maybe she could actually get to know some members of her group for once. As she stood almost serenely on deck, some small sparks caught her eye.

"Are you a light mage as well?" She asked as she approached Rune.

Rune looked up in surprise as she was approached, then back down at the sparkles in her hand. Closing her fist and extinguishing the sparks, she gave a small shrug.

"Not exactly. I know a few tricks that are useful in my line of work, but nothing of the combat variety. I mostly just use performance spells, that sort of thing."

One of the people on a ship was a woman wearing a maid outfit, with a staff strapped to her back, with a purple-haired, perhaps noble-looking man next to her. But the maid outfit wasn't the only thing this blue-haired woman was wearing! She was also wearing a positively unpleasant expression, a constant scowl that seemed probably to be her resting face at this point. In her hands, she had a box of tobacco where she was rolling a cigarillo.
:"Hey, Michael. Don't know if the likely nature of things made an impression on you during the interview, given how bull-headed you are, so I'm gonna find out: you planning on pulling any glorious, charging-in-and-showing-off stunts on this mission?"

As Elanee's path took her near the bow, Jack decided to call out to her. "Chiruno. You do realize this isn't going to be a sightseeing tour, don't you? What's with the guidebook?"

Elanee jumped, guidebook falling to the floor.
"Of- Of course I know that, Mr Smith, I was just.. I figured I may as well try to pass the time and brush up on Govitz a little. Plus it passes the time." She replied, picking the booklet back up.
"It's full of 'come see this, come see that this time of year', so I guess I can pretend I'm just a tourist who's... Really off track, or something."
Somehow, her tone of voice said she didn't really think that would work.

"That'd probably just make anyone stumbling across you even more suspicious. We'll be moving as a group, so we'll be relying on Rune for our cover if we have to move through populated areas. Probably won't be a lot of that though."

"So, are you more excited, or more anxious? To be out in the field instead of a lab, I mean."

"O-oh. Right." Elanee's shrugged, before putting the guidebook into her robes. She can always throw it away when they're off the ship.
"Well... Yeah, I'm definitely Anxious. I guess it shows.. Still, not gonna let that stop me! I'm just getting antsy from doing nothing on the ship."

A much less... out of place, man responded to the maid.

"You worry too much, Lucette!" he says cheerfully, "I know how to be subtle. I think I do at least. I only yell 'charge!' after I stab them, right?" ...It's unclear if he's joking or not.

"Well, try to relax if you can manage it. There won't be much time to rest once we reach land. Now's the only real chance for it." Jack reached into one of the many pouches sewn onto his clothes and retrieved a cigar and a small crystal. "You smoke?" Jack ran his thumb over the crystal, eliciting a small flame from the tip. He used it to light the cigar while Elanee answered.

"Oh, no. My vice is coffee, not Cigars. That and they don't appreciate you smoking in the lab, so.." Taking Jack's words to heart, she walked up, until she was leaning her back against the railing near Jack.
"Oh, Nice Crystal. Anima enchantment? Not my field of study, but pretty nifty, huh." Elanee commented, taking a cursory glance at said crystal.
