Now the question becomes, "What is the point in that?" I mean, I can see making your own home and adding in a vault for coins to trade with, but do goods cycle in Adventure mode? If I do this sort of thing and over time use the profit to buy out the local berry supply, is it going to replenish?

Probably instantly. Economy update.

I can't confirm that trade goods ever update as I haven't played that long, but I kinda get the sense they will?  The wiki tavern page says the wine selections at taverns can change from week to week at least.

I figured it would either be not at all, or in a random way. I go back to waiting quietly for the next update, and the ones after that.

SHops are still a bit weird, i have seen some of them accept currency, and some of them not accept currency.

The rule on that is if the shopkeeper is an actual local, of the local main species, they'll accept the local currency. If you're in a human town and your shop keep is a serpent woman, you won't be dealing in any coin. Though you will see coins in her store inventory and can probably trade for them at a reduced cost related to the value of the material of the coin itself. But you, yourself, won't be able to buy things using coin at anywhere near the fair value a human-run store would give you.

Imported goods stores probably won't accept coin because they'd likely be run by other species. Usually, in my experience, dwarves. Which is sad because those gems they sell are seriously handy as a form of universal currency all the same.
