Does anyone know if weapon traps are still bugged in the new version? I remember building a bunch of those,
forgetting about the wear issue...

It was fixed with one of the 0.44 versions.

Still waiting on the final update regarding the below:
I'll post that in my update tonight, but yeah... we have an entire page of resident Scholars and 2 pages of visiting ones. Sorry, I ahve a bad habit of accepting every petition I get.

[OOC: Sorry, family crap kinda side-railed my weekend and today, so if this post isn't as good as my other one's thats why, also winter was astoundingly boring]

Journal of Ryukan, 1st of Granite 254

Well Henry, winter was the slowest season of the year here. Not much went on, more books were written and the fort was tidied up a bit. The library has attracted many scholars from the ends of the world and the diversity of knowledge is truly astounding.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Many have already petitioned to become fortress residents and I have siad yes to every paper that was come across my desk. Many of the dwarves here have given me the stink eye and I hear grumbles about not enough food or "freeloaders" but they'll get over it.

The season passed slowly, so I found more time to study that accursed gem. I found a fellow in the library from a far away land who claimed to be an expert on mysterious artifacts. He  took a look at my gem and said outside of its masterful cut, there was nothing unusual about it.

I thanked him and wished him luck on his travels. Then one day it hit me. I was walking in the library and I overheard a discussion about illusionists and smoke and mirrors. I slapped myself so hard Henry, and I ran to my Office and began my test. After a few hours of "smoke and mirrors" I have found that the images in the gem were nothing more than the perfect clarity of the gem giving off strange distortions of the area around it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The whispers I swear I heard actually turned out to be a ghost as well, once I slabbed the ghost the whispering stopped.

I must say, I am quite embarrassed about causing this much trouble over a silly effect of light. But hey, at least these dwarves are now the capital of knowledge on this world.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

With my year officially over, I decided to pack my things and leave. When informed that I couldn't possibly leave, I feigned to agree and now here I am Henry. I don't plan on spending anymore time here, I will leave you here in the library, as a record of my tenure as ruler. I've payed off a new migrant to pretend to be me, he looks the same and everything. He was skeptical at first, but once I showed him that gem of mine, he agreed.

Now then, new adventures await good Henry. I am sad to leave you here my old friend, but I am writing on your last page. Fare well friend, the troupe I'm now apart of is leaving.

No need, as said, Winter passed by really boringly. The Library was pretty much done and I just let the fortress idle along, allowed Dwarves to finish orders and get the place tidy. So good news is, your turn will be productive, since the workforce rested during mine and so should be ready to build whatever mega-structure you wish.

Also, please browse through the books and see if there are any that stand out. Always love seeing what our Scholars write

Progress so far: Zero. (as predicted)

Commentary on the map: We can DFhack in more minerals.

I'll try to post the list of books tomorrow. Are we OK to run multiple libraries? I think one thing is the scholars in one library may tend to force the research along one path (and cause skill gain in that path). So we can specialize the libraries.

So we can specialize the libraries.

Bonus points for a Library specializing in combat skills.
Urist points for Library for each non-foreign weapon skill.

Not sure if that is possible but hey, seen weirder things in this game...

Dear God, that was a dumpster fire. However, let's get this shit on the road.

I'm not going to do much digging since the resources are literally nil. I'll build, however, a big staircase down to the magma.

Could I have dorfing as Imic, a male cook.

Imic, Dropout Gourmet Chef :^) Your on m8. If I can find you a dwarf. No dwarf has cooking as a top skill anymore around here so I have to troll through the list.

Cut down on the rat weed dude, it's called a barracks (armoury actually pictured - dwarf barracks tend to have both storage and training space in one room).

We have steel so I'm going to train up a weapon smith and we'll get a lot of free steel out of that. Due to exploits.

Journal of CaptainArch the Apprentice, Granite 1st of the Year 254

So I finish emptying my bowels after a night of chugging gluten-free river spirits and eating raw shellfish. Man, that one was fucking awful. Apparently "gluten-free" does not prevent that! Can you believe it? I can't believe the doctors haven't like produced a report on this.

Worst of all though, we're down to precisely 69 sheets of paper. That's probably going to last another half a party, so we need to hurry up and get the farms pumping out more pig tails and rope reeds or we're in deep shit.

Apparently I have been chosen up on a rotating presidency of this fortress so I can actually order that shit to be done. My current order of business is to discuss probing, as a philosopher and logician I am, and maybe we can reason as to how the doctors couldn't "probe" the recent explosion of fecal incidences around new years'.

Of course at 86 years old I was a mere apprentice in this library where everyone is significantly older than me, save for some of the humans.

This is the current status of the fortress. We have a lot of booze, mostly higher quality river spirits.

A lot of shocking events have happened around the fort recently, including the transformation of a dwarf marine into a were-lizard.

The cavern is a jungle right now.

Interestingly, we have very little other wildlife and the guests are mostly doing anything. I do some administrative investigation as to what might be.

Apparently, we have only one library with one scholar and one scribe assigned to it. That explains a lot of inefficiency, if we have more scholars assigned full time to the library we can maybe make more progress. We might also make more advances with multiple libraries with specialised staff assigned.

I finish my initial paperwork-based investigations by assigning myself a better title.

Lol, As long as I don't get executed for "treason" against El Presidente, I'm perfectly fine with this new and welcome revolution against the monarchy in favor of a democratic government

Sure, I mean, why being under the rule of a wise and benevolent king when you can have a bunch of idiots in suits sitting at a nice building doing jack shit and still getting paid?

Wise and Benevolent in whose eyes? And all governments have useless suits, but in small scale Democracy, it actually works with Direct Democracy

The monarchy and barony do some things, but do surprisingly little.

The king, barons, and mayor don't really designate shit around the fort. The overseer does in the player forts, and a shitload of algorithms do in the others. I've got a few binders full of library and tavern names to diversify our institutions.

Plugging backup save to ensure I can transfer this to another computer:
http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=13481

Serious issues with injecting the raws on this save. It might have been bugged out, had to delete once or twice (though no apparent corruption). I'm going to attempt some radical stuff right now.

Was occupied for the last few weeks, heavily. I'll try to finish it in 3 days but that's going to be a stretch and I might have to finish one year only.

On another note this is a pretty powerful PC and I am getting 50FPS, dropping to 30FPS a while after unpause. We might want to allow a bit of hiatus since the next update apparently has some improvements for libraries. We have 33,203 items (including forbidden or integrated ones, and not consolidating items into stacks) vs Toady's 60,000, and 188 individuals resident.

Journal of CaptainArch the Apprentice, Granite 1st of the Year 254, continued

The day continues onwards with a Dwarf Marine turning back into a Dwarf from a state of werelizardry. I see we have some interesting biological specimens present here. I've decided instead of commenting on the dire state of the fortress logistics, I will focus on seeing how things run.

Granite 2nd of the Year 254

THANK GOD.

Some questions were brought up about being benevolent, and I of course have an educated guesstimation of what that means. If it seems dwarf needs are being taken care of and the fortress is progressing in a direction over time, that fits the definition. That said, we have some, um. Bedrooms with beds where the door should be that aren't designated. I think someone put the beds in the tombs, and the tombs where the tavern housing should be. That, or those were designated safe shitting spaces and with no doors that's a total failure. There's no way to keep the rest of us safe from the stench. Therefore, I ordered them dismantled.

The state of the surface. An inordinate amount of garbage has piled up, causing a lot of useful items such as shells and bone to be degraded, and including the corpses of a lot of dwarves and goblin scholars. This is unacceptable and I will attempt to properly inter them inside the fortress.

I've made a decision on how to deal with the state of the library. This is the current state of the huge tetrahedrite mine that was opened up, which has some inexplicable vomit stains (WTF). A number of new libraries shall be established within that space, including the library of medicine. It will be lead by the current Chairdwarf of the Proctology Corps.

His qualifications are quite exemplary. Nobody can discuss probing and it's use for mind and body quite like him.

I also can't designate a new library until some furniture is put in. I have designed the initial structure as follows; the western half will be a library. This ensures current space does not go to waste.

The corps of engineering and chemistry will not have their libraries there. They will be located here, with the engineering library occupying the "librarius" and the chemistry library. Suffice it to say, the proving grounds is no place to "prove" large scale engineering that needs to be proven deeper down or with access to water.

Out of Character Notes by Captain Archmage

To save FPS loss, I turn off temperature here. I intended and intend to cut down to the magma but I seriously doubt it will be good for FPS. If I hit magma temperature goes back on.

Granite 4th of the Year 254

I've had two or three petitions in the last four days. Looks like we're getting a lot more visitors, and some interesting discussions are happening.

Granite 5th of the Year 254

I don't literally even here. Apparently most of the beds are literally out of their rooms, even in the hospital. Dwarves are literally rested on a polished floor. Are you seriously fucking kidding me? That's got to change.

In other news, I'm going to use the mayor's quarters for the mayor now they are built. Still need some smoothing work done there though.
