Kill the Mayor - Exposition!

You open your eyes. They sting and you can barely see, but you manage to keep them open. A hazy yellowish light is before you, but something slowly drifts in front of it, something much more defined, long and thin. You attempt to draw a breath but get a mouthful of fetid water instead. Coughing and spluttering you thrash about in the shallow water, finally figuring out which way is up and breaking the surface for a deep gulp of equally fetid air. Casting about, you realise the object was a fat log of shit. The yellow light seems to be far above you. How far you cannot say, but a much paler green light is being thrown off by some mushrooms growing on the shore. The water in which you woke up stretches farther than the light, and the vague sound of danger echoes in the distance. As you drag your rag-clad body to the shore, one burning thought is etched on your empty mind:

You splutter and scramble to the shore. Along the way your pipe catches on something under the water and you're submerged once again. You manage to dredge both yourself and the thing you tripped on out again, and, pipe-leg slipping into the ground on almost every step, you manage to throw yourself onto the relatively dry beach. The ground is made of large, sharpish flakes of something you can't quite identify. Some crumble and some bend as you collapse upon them. The thing you dragged out with you turns out to be a very large and rusted metal wrench. Thinking quickly you tightly clamp a sharp spike of metal in its beak. You now have a weapon.

Your head swims with visions of clowns and gods and violence. You were dead? Shaking your head clear of the horrors, you stumble to the shore and rest against a glowing mushroom. But you're not alone on this beach. You tighten your fists around brass.

You slosh along to the shore. You're pretty sure you see movement by the large mushroom off to your right. You fumble around through your pockets and grasp a pouch. Your clumsy fingers struggle with the wet drawstring but you open it and find some soaked leaves inside. A sharp, mildly pleasant smell cuts through the pervasive odour of waste and you feel intense fondness for the contents of the pouch. You hope they'll help you in the wide darkness.
