[HORSEPLAY] tag
« on: October 20, 2017, 03:42:14 pm »

Currently the level of conflict called Horseplay has no affect in adventure or fortress mode, but in the testing arena it’s like training without weapons, doing “light taps” against each other. I tried this with 4 cats, and they kept falling over from over-exertion. I think this should be a tag that makes them enter horseplay mode with other members of their species (cats, for example, and maybe dogs) and make a report in dark blue “the <animal> is playing around with <other animal>! And show combat logs for them.

[PLAYFUL] could work alternatively, and auto-equip (most) children with the tag, so if they start a fight without intent (lets say lots of animals on the same tile getting irate), they'll do as you describe.

Well, no, overcrowding animals should still lead to fights, but maybe [PLAYFUL:chance], just like [PRONE_TO_RAGE:chance], found on black mambas, so they have a certain chance of entering play fight mode when it sees another of its kind. Maybe 2% for cats because normally they’re friendly with each other.

And why would some animals have this and others not?
Dragons aren't allowed to playfully scrap with each other? Better off just improving the ai so they appear to do it naturally under the right circumstances.

Well, if you happen to see a pair of monstrous ogre beasts playfully wrestling with each other, it might be a bit cringe-inducing.

The trick is to only make predictions semi-seriously.  That way, I don't have a 98% failure rate. I have a 98% sarcasm rate.

It would, but monstrous ogre beast's personalities would no doubt make them inclined to escalate horseplay to lethal pretty quickly.

Deadly monster blocks your adventurer's path, you wait for your inevitable demise

> It lightly taps you! and jumps back, waiting before tapping you again.

> Phew it just wants to play, time to scarper before it changes its mind and crushes me in 1 swipe of its paw.

Hmm it would be nice though if creatures were locked into playful fighting versus elves who don't frighten or aggravate wild animals.

Play behavior is often connected to the intelligence of a species (because the main point of playing is to learn).  Most mammals play; most reptiles don't.

Really, we need more variable AI for animals; right now all animals behave the same which isn't realistic at all.  The existing ersonality traits should probably be enough to handle an acceptable simulation, but they have to actually do something.
