Improving Attributes
« on: October 28, 2017, 11:55:33 pm »

How can I tell when I've maxed one out? If I start at High what is the text that tells me I can't get any further in that attribute?

Cuz there's just so much to learn. It's not spam if it has reasonable and acceptable purpose. It's in fact what a forum is for. I have Superior in one of my stats, hopefully that's not the cap...

Superior is the cap.

Wiki and forums says that in 40.xx there was added new, wonky, and absolutely unseen for me, cap -"attribute cap for creature is it's starting attribute doubled or  starting attribute + 1000". So, if you start with "high", assuming that "high" is "very strong" in fort mode, your cap is on " superior", if you will not become a vampire, which by itself may or may not lock attributes in place after doubling them. This stuff can really use a bit more organization.
Yet Another New And Infuriating Discovery for me.

The labels are scaled based on your race in adventure mode. You can probably easily reach Super Antman strength, because they're small and weak, but Super Elephant man strength might be more difficult.

The only sure way to know is to check the number values via hacking.

You're right, a cup exists somewhere.

There is a cap, and it is set precisely at 200% of your starting attribute. EG if you start with 1000 strenght, your cap is at 2000. So if you start really low, you'll cap really fast. Great/Superior/super(race) are labels made by comparing your actual value to the average of your race. EG a strong troll is much stronger than a strong human.

Except when starting attribute + racial average + 1000 is higher.

It IS spamming. The proper procedure is to either post your question in a general small questions thread, or to make a single catchall specifically for all your questions. I can't say too much since I've spammed other forums without thinking about it before, but there is an actual way you're supposed to do it.

Attributes take a while to max out as demonstrated in a previous post of mine http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=143889.msg5694110#msg5694110

You can't really tell whether you've maxed out past a certain point, either.
The best way to improve attributes seems to be grinding combat skills, as some antique advice I've read from back in the day such as "swim a lot" showed to barely make a dent in terms of stat gains even after going from dabbling -> legendary+xx (went from "average" to "above average" in a couple of stats), while the little technique I detail in my linked post makes a very significant impact on your stats.
