I just visited a ruined dwarf fortress. No people are around. The trade depot still contains a lot of items, that have the $ sign attached. Afaik this means these items belong to someone and taking them is considered stealing.

Seems a bit strange in this case. Is there a way to remove this status? Does it have a negative effect wearing such items?

There is technically no owner for those items. So grab 'em.

Operational structures in ruined fortresses is a bug (I think). Libraries at least have been mentioned as being properly ruined in the next release. Perhaps that's extended to trade depots and taverns too (or not).

I mean, I kind of like the idea of finding an operational tavern in the middle of a fortress which was destroyed 500 years ago, but I imagine it's not supposed to happen.

this might be the case of the fort being 2 sites overlay on top of each other.
so a ruin fort entrance could still have a mountainhome that isn't destroyed
and given the dwarves just move to the surface the game probably give ownership of the shop to the mountainhome while the building and structure is of the fort entrance.
