because nothing is better than free games, here's a list of my favorite flash games from when i was a child:

http://armorgames.com/play/2407/karoshi-suicide-salaryman - kil urself
http://www.nitrome.com/games/icebreaker/               - this one has one of the most chill/ambient soundtracks ever. there's also an ice breakers 2
http://armorgames.com/play/2044/amorphous-plus  - kill slimes
http://armorgames.com/play/1920/bubble-tanks-2 - upgrade bubbles

i feel all flash games are inherently though.

as for real games:
two worlds + two worlds II due to their kind of crappy nature
EYE divine cybermancy was a ball of weird that i could never grasp

if your group has enough savvy and enough computers, The Hidden was a damn fun game when it was still popular
http://www.hidden-source.com/
in the same source mod vein, Suicide Survival is hilarious if you have enough players

Frog Fractions for sure, but i imagine people in a "gaming club" already know about it.

Here are a few of my picks I can think of off the top of my head:

- Duck Game - Local Multiplayer
- Broforce - Local Multiplayer
- Pony Island
- A dark room

Saw this thread and was like "What was that one super weird almost non-game this forum showed me?"

And Middens it was. To my mind it typifies the 'weird game' genre with a big emphasis on acid visuals, sound effects, non-linear play and constantly changing format. For how much work goes in to them basically just so they can be explored, I consider them more moving art projects than games.

Vinnie Vole's Existential Nightmare is a brief, magical experience that will stay with you forever.

An oldie (1995!) that I was thinking about today: Millenia: Altered Destinies.

Distilled down to its core, I'd say it's resource management and order puzzle... but that really trims it to bare concepts.

You're basically flung into an alternate galaxy in a time travelling spaceship with the mission to arrange the galaxy such that the four sentient races each dominate a quarter of the galaxy *and* can defeat the invading alien threat, or just find a way home by letting the four races take over the galaxy in turn, steal their tech, and leave (with the implication that our galaxy is next to be taken over, in a few thousand years time).

There are pretty finite resources; hopping to each planet to talk to them takes fuel, as does time travel, and refulling has pretty good odds of damaging your ship. Different races need different technologies at different times to develop further (which is manifested as a physical item that you take and give), and once they become spacefaring, they'll also go to war against each other, compounding your headache. And on top of all this, you're not the only one mucking about the timestream in this galaxy; you'll occasionally run into alternate versions of yourself undoing your hard work.

And, for extra fun: With how much of this game is partially randomized, it is VERY possible to have an unwinnable galaxy, either through bad placement of your ambassadors, screwing up technological developments, or just running out of time, that you won't notice until you've sunk like 20 hours into it.

This would definitely qualify, if you are willing to spend the $10:

If you don’t want to spend money on LISA, there’s also LISA:The First which is free. You might want to play it by yourself first though. It deals with some very uncomfortable subject matter to put it lightly.
