Electromagnetic Matter Shield
Hmm. A tricky prospect. Numerous new technologies would be required to make this work, along with substantial engineering efforts. Considering you don't have any prior experience, and this isn't something that exists even theoretically today (as far as I know?), this would probably be Ludicrous.
A more primitive version may come down to Very Hard.
Developing electromagnetic tech in other, simpler ways first would also help.

Rocket fighter Raptor
Not especially ambitious techwise, you have to remember that your colony has basically no weapons-making experience yet. The numerous elements and multifaceted nature of this design would make it Hard, and likely to drop a few features even on a 'success'.

I am strongly against purely economic designs that don't impact battlefield in any way. Such long term things should be done when we have advantage, not when we are even. Also, we need designs to use production points on.
So, to be clear, there won't be any fighting happening the first few turns. Not sure if that impacts your thinking.

I am strongly against not allowing for types of thinking and planning that will have absolutely massive long-term benefits.
First turns are initiative. Doing turns like pan a3 can be a good long term move on turn 10 of a chess game but it is an awful turn 1. Even as there will be no combat in first few turns we need balanced army, not focus on one design and production rates

Rocket bomber Viper
Viper is a relatively simple vessel with a crew of two: Pilot and navigator\bomber. It is powered by two rocket engines and has aerodynamic shape and wings allowing it to operate both in space and in atmosphere. It has no internal weapons but can carry up to two tons of bombs on its wings. Bombs themselves are mitiralizied explosive devices used in mining industry. Those bombs use either gravity or inertia to reach their target. Viper's hull is made from durable and heat resistant materials giving it some protection against energy weapons and allowing reentry into most atmospheres. It can be launched from either Interplanetary Transport Craft or from land using landing strips.

This one is intentionally simple. It is something we can start producing immediately. It can be a very refittable platform. It gives us experience in armor, explosives, engines.

This'll act as a springboard to so many more advanced techs it isn't even funny, so yes let's go for it!

So, quick question... Are we actually designing anything that contributes towards our ability to take and hold a planet or have we built a reactor?

This is pretty much an industrial power plant, it won't be directly usable in our ships just yet, but do note that NUKE did say that making a Fusion Generator for our ships right out would be Very Hard, but like this? Merely Hard, and it'd make designing a proper ship based version much, much easier if it succeeds.

We have a plan, don't worry.

Has the plan been written down? Also if we have mods for the discord can somebody add me please.

Edit: Also I have many, many questions to ask Nuke once he's back online.

If we don't make long-term inventions when where are totally safe for a couple of turns then we are never going to make them because the constant pressure to counter the enemy will distract us.

Let's go with Madman's longterm approach. Hopefully they are not going to invent anything that hard counters us by luck.

QS-CPP-95 'Beacon'
To prove ourselves better than our heathen neighbors, we have labored hard and long, searching the texts brought from Earth. Taking designs for something called a "Tokamak magnetic confinement system" we have assembled our best scientists and begun the long process of producing a version of one of these, hoping to have our entire planet powered by the awesome majesty of the might of the stars. Utilizing as many resources as possible and spread over as much land as necessary, we hope to reduce the difficulty by giving our scientists plenty of room and resources to work. The device works by channeling a deuterium and lithium plasma in a toroid (Donut shape) through the use of toroidal/ring-shaped magnets wrapped around the outside of the torus. The heat from the fusion will be used to heat water around the reaction chamber itself, which will then be used to generate power through steam turbines as usual in fission reactors. There will also be a lithium "blanket" in places, which will passively be turned into tritium as high-energy neutrons from the reactor itself strike the blanket. The tritium will then be used in the reactor itself. Deuterium, the other active component, will be harvested from seawater.

By specifying reactor type we may or may not get a bonus to difficulty, according to the GM. It all depends on how he would have interpreted the original reactor proposal.

Spoiler'd for length even though I brutally axe-murdered most of it. Most of it will remain a pipe dream, honestly. Khazin, we can't get all of that and not all of it is necessary.

I've left almost all my comments and ideas in parentheses at the ends of these things, but some of them are mixed in and among the designs. We will not be getting everything on this list, I suspect, unless this AR drags on for a long time. Tomorrow I'll work up a list of priorities to get our forces ready to roll on the first turn.

Spoiler: Ground (click to show/hide)

Sea:
Utilize spacecraft instead. Designs and revisions are too precious to be spent on vehicles we won't be able to transport (too big) and won't be able to use on more than 4 worlds.

Spoiler: Air (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Noncombatant (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Space (click to show/hide)
