Toneshowered, the fort of gay microcephalic kobold
« on: January 05, 2018, 03:08:29 pm »

So I started a new project, next after the fort of the shark (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=165094.0). My dwarves embarked on a small volcanic island at the western edge of the world:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I thought it would be a sharp mountain peak, something like a heavily forested version of Roomcarnage. I was wrong, it appeared to be a very dull landscape:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Anyway, dwarves arrived, the wagon stopped right on the edge of the volcanic crater. Strike the Earth!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

First time my fort got normal dwarven entrance, a horizontal corridor leading into the side of the mountain, not a kind of immobile escalator as it happens usually in my forts:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I appreciate new Armok Vision very much, it's great, dwarves look differently according to their professions, it's just fucking great:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Sometimes it looks like South Park:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Creatures of different sizes look differently, a duckling looks much smaller than a mountainhome liaison, it makes too much sense for Dwarf Fortress:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dwarves of this world are crazy, they embrace elves:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

First year passed. Dvarwes built gneisse floor over the volcano:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

But in sideview it still looks like nothing is changed:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Edit: the title.

The fort got entrance defences:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And undeground pasture for useless livestock brought up by migrants:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's time to lay first obsidian blocks in the statue's foundation:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Wereskink arrived, bit three citizens and got killed. I quarantined bitten dwarves in the same room, at the next full moon they started a huge fight, the strongest survived:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The fort is 2 years old:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A forgotten beast arrived in caves. Dwarves built a trap using an artifact coffin (let the beast try to destroy it) and a lot of copper dildos:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dwarves love their library. Armok Vision depicts doctors in a crazy way:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The trap worked. Beast attacked the coffin, got hit by dildos, got injured severely, jumped out and stood there for some time. Stupid tavern keeper decided to kill the beast bare-handed, rushed thoughtlessly and got webbed by the beast, it saved dwarf's life:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Soldiers arrived and killed the beast. Apparently the web played on the fort's side - it prevented retarded warriors from wrestle-attacking the beast and not prevented reasonable warriors from shooting bolts at it:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dwarves got on the surface gathering woods:

The fort is 3 years old. I found out that I misunderstood how my 3D-utility interprets horizontal projections so statue's legs appear to be very ugly crooked:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I decided to start another megaproject. Dwarves will try to obsidian out all the magma at map's edges:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Later they will drain magma to hell and make something funny out of former magma sea.

Dwarves started to build demon kennel:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

In Helmedlion I noticed that living creatures seen far beyond fortifications attract demons so it's theoretically possible to get all the demons on the map in a single small chamber, then lock it up and then hell becomes secure. Something like this I accidentally made in Helmedlion.

Dwarven mechanics started to build hydro power plant:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dwarves entered upper caves. Trash zone now looks dwarvy enough:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I noticed that dwarves of 0.43.05 are much tougher than dwarves of 0.40.xx. Citizens of Tomeshowered don't give a fuck to anything:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The fort is 4 years old. Statue's legs still crooked, dwarves are repairing them but it's still a long road ahead:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Found a religious engraving on a wall, never saw such things before:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Caravan arrived:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Werechameleon arrived, this time dwarves noticed him early. That's what he had seen in his last moments when he approached fort's entrance:

Somebody wrote something similar to typical PhD thesises:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The fort is 5 years old:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The demon-kennel opened. There was a problem, passing by dwarves got scared. Soldiers had to commit genocide on demons:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The fort is 6 years old:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's a second wave of demons. the demon-kennel got doors installed, demons could not scary anyone anymore:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Very poisonous forgotten beast arrived in caves, it's like a living barrel full of mustard gas. One soldier died horribly:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The fort is 7 years old:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The stairwell descends to hell:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The fort is 8 years old:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There are problems in exploring of hell. Demons attack in numbers, it's impossible to defend the hellgate, soldiers had to retreat. I decided to try to invite demons in the demon-kennel once more. It was wrong decision, apparently that chamber doesn't attract them anymore. Furthermore, no-more-locked-up demons immediately destroyed the drawbridge that locked them up before. They move down too:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Soldiers tried to shoot them out, it was a bad idea, soldiers beyond fortifications just inspired demons to attack even more furiously:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

They stand in line to be shot, this line is neverending, it's technically nearly impossible to kill them all because new demons arrive from hell endlessly:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The ultimate decision appeared to be a cat forced to be near demon-kennel outside. All the demons moved back to their chamber:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Some got few bolts in asses to move faster:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The fort is 9 years old:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There are gremlins in caves:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There was an accident, carpenter-lumberjack called 'Wood' fell down the statue, she did not survived:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The fort is 10 years old:

The statue got arms and hands:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Almost all library nerds claim themselves doctors, it's hillarious:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The fort is 12 years old, not 11, I realised that I wrote incorrect dates all the way, you should ++ each date to get correct fort age.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Who cares though.

And now the fort is 13 years old:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dwarves still can't reconquer the gates of hell. In desperation I ordered to dig big П-shaped demon-catcher to lock up there at least a part of demon horde:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The fort is 14 years old:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The time of magma !!fun!! is approaching. The magma-pump tower grew up and touch statue's left elbow. There are no wooden axles, only obsidian gears, only hardcore:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A little higher than statue's elbows dwarves lay down the floor across all the statue:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There's a megahatch in the floor:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dwarven mechanics begin to mount pumps for magma cannon:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

By the way, the fort is 15 years old.

The demon-catcher failed, there's just a single demon caught inside:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The fort is 16 years old:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Another view:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There are 201 pumps in the magma cannon:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Werechameleon arrived, bit 6 dwarves and got killed. Bitten dwarves were locked up in the hospital, next full moon it became a hellish hell:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's strange that werechameleons didn't attack an unconscious woman who survived. The last survived werechameleon transformed back into dwarf and got an order to go to caves and kill a jabberer bare-handed. It was inevitable.

That's how the magma cannon looks from beneath:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That's how it looks from above:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The fort is 18 years old:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

One more view of the magma cannon from above:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

First test of the magma cannon failed miserably, there's a big leak near right hand, the cannon could not create appropriate pressure:

Furthermore, the draining hatch melted down because I forgot that gneisse isn't magma-safe:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Wild turkeys walk on the surface:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You may have noticed that statue's shirt is very rough in some strange way. There are a lot of 1-tile retractable bridges around, they are all connected to pressure plates where a minecart is running in rounds. That was first test of the system:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Another view with a little different settings:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A soldier is chilling inside lower jaw:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The faster moves the minecart, the crazier behaves the statue:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Marksdwarves shot down a kea:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That's the second test of the magma cannon. Another fail, two new leaks found:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The fort is 19 years old:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dwarves surround the magma tower stairwell with a wall. This stairwell should become main road from the fort to the statue:

I think this needs to be given a place in the hall of legends and will nominate it.

This also might be better off in the "DF Community Games & Stories" board, but that will need a mod to move.

Spilled magma floods the surface:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Repaired magma cannon works much better:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

One dwarf accidentally walled herself outside statue's nose:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I noticed that there's a lot of nudist dwarves in the fort. They don't care, neither do I.

The fort is 20 years old. Bright cinnabar lips make the statue look gay:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'd rather let it be.

The stairway that leads along the magma-pump tower has been surrounded by walls and covered by ceiling, it's completely secure:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dwarves set up horizontal diaphragmes in statue's ankles, open the draining hatch, the statue is being flooded by magma up to the crotch:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That's the final test of the magma cannon. I think I've done the best that I could:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A microcline bridge in the statue's crotch melted down. The statue shits with magma, it' disgusting:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dwarves stopped the leak:

Dwarves tried to fill the upper half of the statue with magma to make the magma-ball bigger. Soon I realized that it's impossible in current design because magma cannon apparently acts like a kind of quantum disinegrator. All the magma that overflows it disappears immediately and completely. Dwarves started to build another ceiling with hatches over the cannon:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Another view from the same point in the same moment, camera looks up, not down:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The lower part of the statue almost filled with magma:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

In the volcano magma level fell significantly, you can see old pumpstack entry over the magma:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You may have remembered that I said that dwarves would try to obsidianize all the edges of the magma see down to the bottom. It's done:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dwarves started to obsidianize walls between the volcano bottom and the rest of the magma see to prevent volcano draining when the magma see would be drained:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Then suddenly the statue is complete. It appears to ba a gay microcephalic kobold, it disappointed me, I expected something different:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I tried to make a very long gif showing how the magma cannon slowly rises its power from zero to max value. Unfortunately, Stone Sense broke after 40th frame:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Those are four Stone Sense photos in high resolution:

I decided not to continue. That's the history of the fort, every frame represents a year:

That's all, thank you all for watching.
