'Persuading' people to join fortress. Help.

So is there any way to use DFHACK or some other utility to force animal people found in caverns to become part of your fortress? I ask because I managed to capture some plump helmet people and I want to see if I can breed encourage fun for SCIENCE. I know about <tweak makeown>, but it looks like that just makes them a 'pet' and uncontrollable through Dwarf Therapist.

Use that, there's a good chance they'll petition after a while. Also changing mayors helps but first you have to wait long enough.

And this belongs in gameplay questions.
