Shattering the Skies Above IC-Thread March 2018 (Turn 2)

OOC-Thread

7th February 2018 T-Minus 30 minutes till First Contact

"Docking clamps have been extended...all systems nominal. Tiangong-1 you are cleared for docking."

"Affirmative ISS, Tiangong initiating docking procedure in 3,2,1...docking!"

Commander Bresnik looked distinctively more relaxed now that the several hour long careful approach of the chinese space station was finally complete. It would be the newest permanent addition to the Station and the official joining of the Chinese Space Program with the ISS-Program.

As he left Sergey to oversee the remaining docking formalities he made his way to where the Tiangong-1 would actually dock. When he arrived the rest of the ISS-Crew were already waiting in anticipation: Alexander Gerst from Germany, Timothy Peake from the old Home Isles and that Australian engineer whose name he always forgot.

Recently the International Space Station had become a veritable melting pot of different nations, which was rare on the usually russian and us dominated station.

He gave a broad satisfied smile to his crew as the doors began to open...

...and a group of armored bipedals floated into the zero gravity room. effortlessly they moved about, manouvering jets moving them about with ease in the cramped spaces of the station. And as they swarmed out their rifles stayed pointed at the crew at all times. Bresniks smile was forced, long since had the elation at being the first man to come into contact with aliens been replaced with
fear at what they would do to him, to his crew and most importantly to Earth. They seemed thin below the bulked plate of their armor...almost avian in form.

When they were satisfied that the entire crew had been rounded up, all of them were escorted off the ISS and onto the shuttle the aliens arrived in...time would tell what would happen to these poor, unfortunate souls.

8th February 2018 T+1 Day

The Leadership of Great Britain, the USA, Germany, the Russian Federation, the Peoples Republic of China and Australia all had assembled in an underground bunker. The briefing had been short. twenty four hours ago the ISS had been boarded by aliens and the crew abducted. Now a fleet of Alien Ships was hanging in High Orbit out of reach of any Nuclear Countermeasures.

The Question now was...what would Earth do?

First question, do we even try to keep this under wraps, or do we tell everyone else now? If the former, how long?

Germany: Considering all communication with astronauts on the ISS was made via their respective Space Agencies, it is theoretically possible to suppress the news. That will only work for a few days however, before family members starting getting concerned about the lack of communication. I would advise for this, until we are absolutely certain of our next moves.

Specifically, do we consider this an Act of War against Earth? Do we attempt to communicate with the Aliens?

However, Germany will make it's stance clear to you all now. It will do all in its power to protect astronaut Alexander Gerst, as well as every other German citizen, by whatever means necessary.

do we consider this an Act of War against Earth?
They were armored and had weapons, and were pointing them at our men in order to get them to comply. If they're advanced enough to get here, they're advanced enough to know what a hostile action is. I say yes.

Russia: ”Suppressing the news needs to be a major priority between the nations, having the mass of people know will only result in global panicking and riots, and whatnot. A coverup story should be created, and have it explain the losses of our men and women in the ISS. We need more time before the general public knows that their are extraterrestrial threats, and it should be a gradual process as we reveal more information about them.

As for the Intruders, the Russian Union only sees their actions as a declaration of war, and they shall be treated as a insurgency, though with more advanced technology and tactics than us, in the likely case. The case is more leaning towards them having aggressive intentions towards everyone, however, keeping an open-minded with some discretion is always advised with these concerns

It is clear to the United States that this is a hostage situation. They have taken some of our best and brightest, and now hold them against their will. Lines of communication must be opened, hasty action against an enemy we know nothing about would be most unwise. We will learn what they want, and negotiate an agreement. Failing that, there is little we can manage at this time. They are beyond nuclear counter measures.

For now, we keep this quiet and do not consider it an act of war. Moving too hastily could cause mass panic, or even cause an inter-wherever they're from, war.

China agrees about the cover-up, but no hostile action should be taken until we have talked and tried to reason with the aliens. We must delay war, any race capable of getting here is going to have the ability to wipe the floor with us.

If they were aggressive and could "wipe the floor with us" they would have done so already. So they must be one or the other. My money is on their capabilities rather than their temperament. If they had the power to resist or deflect our collective nuclear arsenal, they wouldn't be hovering outside it's range. Until we know more, we attempt to contact the ISS crew and their captors through any means and we prepare defensive and reaction measures.

They likely don't know much more about us than we do them. We don't know their typical procedures, nor do we know if they know we have nuclear weaponry. Always remember, we don't know what everyone else knows or doesn't. So, yes, we need to be cautious about this, but we also shouldn't give these aliens more credit than they necessarily deserve.
Things we do know: they use physical rifles, implying they, like ourselves, don't have any "magic powers" or anything - or at least, that the type of troops they sent in don't. They wore armor, and nobody does that if they don't need it - though, given the environment, those may have just been space suits; either way, if it comes down to a fight, bullets will work. They're used to being in space, as seen how they were able to navigate the space station easily. And whatever their other motivations, they understand that we're sentient - no point threatening the crew with rifles otherwise - and they have some sort of interest in us, and alive, else they would have just shot up the place.

Well those assumptions are all well and good and all, but their just that, assumptions. And I feel like we all heard that saying about asses and assumptions.

We need to take slow and measured response to this. Open up communication, see what they want and get our boys back.

We can’t just underestimate this newfound impalpable outsiders, that will only leaves us weak to attack, only better to make sure we develop countermeasures against the outsider nation. Even if they utilize basic gear as you stated, and aren’t of the godly type, they still and based on the past even can be very threatening, notice that none of our radar systems could detect them until we recorded the event. Preliminary results means that they have the ability to attack another civilization from a distant solar system, galaxy, or even plausible a different universe in entirety, though their is a less likely chance their from like Mars or something in our solar system. The reason they haven’t dominated us in one go, if it is their intention, is because of transport capacity. They have only send their scouts and vanguards on the initiative, they might have access to things like orbital satellites and space battleships if they can field them. The reports feel like we are only dealing with a scouting force, and we must take vigilance with our actions. Even if they seem to only utilize primitive technology, or at least the kind that aren’t god-tier, we need to discover more about this outsider intangible before we are too of hasty with our initiative of action.

Germany: These beings are, at the very least a Type 1 on the Kardeshev Scale, and as they are likely extrasolar, likely a Type 2. As we are not even Type 1 yet, the difference in power is ridiculous. These aliens were able to travel across (at the very least) interplanetary distances without any form of obvious propulsion method. Bearing in mind that all propulsion we know of effectively boils down to dumping a lot of hot particles out the back, that should broadcast their location every time they make a course change.

If the force we see here is sorted in any way by their main civilisation, then we are hopelessly outmatched.
