I didn't notice this in-game but after I retired and went to the legends, I saw that many text were being destroyed in my fort:

In the early summer of 303, Nashra Tedaz, "The Attack of Incinerating" occurred.
 In the early summer of 303, The Kingdom of Thrift attacked The Lush Pregnancy of The Immortal Zephyr at Budassault.
 In the early summer of 303, The Meaning Of Tradition was destroyed in Axeheavy.
 In the early summer of 303, Martial Prowess For Students was destroyed in Axeheavy.
 In the early summer of 303, Prosperity And More was destroyed in Axeheavy.
 In the early summer of 303, The Way With Scaldedblades was destroyed in Axeheavy.
 In the early summer of 303, Metals Questioned was destroyed in Axeheavy.
 In the early summer of 303, The Nuanced Glue was destroyed in Axeheavy.
 In the early summer of 303, Life With Adhesives was destroyed in Axeheavy.

Any ideas? In all, I see 16 or more that were destroyed and I have no idea why or how. At first, I thought it might have to do with me retiring the fortress but it started way before that.

Do I need a scholar to protect them?

Are these texts that were created in the fortress?
There's a bug which seems to be destroying artifacts when they get brought onto the map (not always, causes are a bit vague right now). Legends records them as having been destroyed at your site.

No, they were brought into the fort.

It's probably related then. Not sure if it's a single bug or a couple combined but here's the report:

It's initially about artifact creators not having an artifact name in their description, but further down people have been noticing the artifacts are being destroyed.
