It's time for Stirk's probability corner for personal use!
Starting at the simplistic case, when the rolls are even. While this may look like a 50/50 chance, pirate counts ties as failures. This mean stuff you auotofail if the gm gets a 6, and still have a 1/6 chance of failing on a 1. The end result is a 58.32% chance of failure.
Add one dice to your side, and it shrinks to 41.66% chance of failure, two more is 27.77%, 3 16.66%, 4 8%, 5 2.77 %, 6+ auto hit. The returns are smaller each time, but having a high gunner skil puts you in a better situation to use the bonuses.
The other way, - 1 jumps to 72%, -2 83.33, -3 91.66%, -4 97.2% failure, -5 automiss. 10 gunner 1 tanks shooting at a far away moving target have a 75.45% to not hit anything on a given turn.
Damage and tank kill chance when I am back on my comp.

I have added the M3 Stuart for the Americans, seeing how it seemed like a decent addition to the game, might add a few more tanks like the Lee once they are stated up, but yeah, keep that in mind.

Damage Calc:
I'll start off using a simplified version, under the assumption nobody has engineering leveled. Defining terms:
Nothing: Either the round bounced, or hit to no effect.
Damage: A hit that lowered the performance of the tank, including injuring and incapacitating the crew not including TPK. Damage hits technically become slightly less common after multiple hits (because the way the game works, hitting the tracks critically for the third time becomes "no effect"), and multiple damaging hits can turn Fatal by incapacitating the entire crew.
Fatal: The tank is no longer able to operate and is out of the match (including team wipes.)

My understanding of Fire:
It seems to be 1d6 v 1d6+ engineering to put out the fire (leading to a 58% chance of failure in this case). If this is failed, the next guy goes and does it. An injury roll happens regardless.
My understanding of Injury rolls:
Well those relevant to fighting. 50% of getting taken out, 1/6 of nothing, 2/6 of damage.

So for example, a fire will only be Fatal if the first two fail the test (.58^2=33~% of the time) and all three fail their wound roll (.5^3, 12.5%). Thus a random fire has a 4.125% chance of being fatal. The possibility of none of them being injured and the fire continuing into the next turn is there, but it is not large enough to worry about here. On the other hand, there a couple of ways that it could do nothing. Any three of the fire rolls has a 1/6 chance to do nothing, and a 58% chance to fail at putting it out, you have:
58% chance guy 1 can't put it out (1/6 chance no Damage, 50% chance incapacitated)
33% guy 2 and guy 1 can't put it out (1/6 no damage on guy 2, 50% incapacitated, 25% both guys incapacitated, 1/36 both unharmed)
19.5% all three guys can't put it out (1/6 no damage guy 3, 50% incapacitated, 12.5% Fatal, 1/216 all unharmed)

So with 1 round of fire, you have a:
19.5% to still be on fire
4.125% to have all your guys taken out putting out the fire.
7% chance to put the fire out with the first guy uninjured
1.81% chance for the second guy to put out the fire with no injuries
So the total is:
Fatal: 4.125%
Damaged: 87.065%
Nothing: 8.81%


Yep. Doing lots of rounding, on the bases I don't care about anything that is less than 1%. Ironically this means that rolling 3 wounds is probably more damaging than having a fire.

Comparing that to a catastrophic fire:
Everyone has a 50% chance of getting taken out (12.5% Fatal) before rolling.
-1/6 each guy is damaged, 1/6 -1 to rolls, 1/6 -2 to rolls.
Guy 1 has a 50% chance of rolling nothing (cuz he is ded), 1/6 of rolling -2, 1/6 of rolling -3, and 1/6 of rolling -4. As above, he has a 1/6 of having a 83.33/91.66/97.2 fail chance on the fire in addition to having another wound roll. He also has another 50% chance of getting out alive, so:
1/36 chance of getting out uninjured. ~3%, not worth calculating a "nothing" result.
Overall, a 96.1% chance that he failed to put out the fire (including failure due to being KOed).
88.75% everyone failed to put the fire out.
The odds of one man standing to fight the fire are 25%. The odds of two guys left are 50%. The odds of all three standing is 12.5%, though most will probably be injured.
If one guy is standing, there is a 50% chance of him being KOed
If two guys are standing, there is a 83.33/91.66/97.2 chance the fire goes out before it gets to guy 2. There is a 90.7% chance he will fail to put out the fire, thus a 22.68% chance it takes 'em both out.
If three guys are still left, its got a 10.28% chance of beating the first two and KOing anyone.
So there is an overall 22.58% of the fire being fatal if anyone was left standing.

So catastrophic fires are nasty.

Total per turn:
Fatal: 35.085%
Damaging: 64.915%~
Nothing: Negligible


So on to rolls!
Well almost. First, here are what the chances are:

-Nothing Chance:.2*1/6+.2*1/6+.4*1/6+.1*1/6+.1*2/6 =18.33%
-Fatal Chance:.2*2/6+.4*1/6*.125+.4*1/6*0.04125+.4*1/6*.35085+.1*1/6*0.04125+.1*2/6= 13.51%
-Damage chance:100%-(noting+fatal) =68.1%
Crit:
-Fatal: 40% +.4*.35085 =54%
-Damaging: 46% (Darn tracks...)

Now that the hard parts are done, lets calc! So when pen=armor, you have a 40% bounce, 50% hit, 10% crit. With that info, you have a total chance of
49% nothing
12% Fatal
39% Damaging
So you have the best chance to not actually do anything.

Pen value +1: Nothing 39%/Fatal 17%/44%damaged
+2 N 29%/F 23%/D 48%
+3 N 19%/F 28%/D 53%
+4 N 9%/F 34%/D 57% <---No more bounces
+5 N 7%/F 37%/D 56%
+6 N 5%/F40%/D 55%
Etc until it gets to +9, then you just have the Crit's chance.

Pen Value -1: N 59%/F 7%/D 34% <---no more crits
-2: N 67%/F5%/D 28%
-3: N 75%/F4%/D 21%
-4: N 84%/F3%/D 13%
-5: N 92%/F1%/D 7%
-6: Nothing forever, you are now Invincible tank.

These are pretty easy to add together, if you want to take the chance of hitting and killing/damaging the enemy. For example, if your gunner is making a +1 shot at an enemy with +1 pen, you have the shots odds (1-.4166) of hitting times the odds of killing (~.17) for a final result of ~10% to hit and kill the enemy. Nifty! Also explains why fights take so long.

As an end cap, lets look at the Sherman's odds. It sets on fire on a 5/6, giving it an extra 1/3 chance to set on fire whenever hit. This adds a static 1.375% chance of fatality, 29% chance of damage. It basically adds a nerfed -2 hit to any successful hit.

Apparently I am facing Twin in the fight.

Starting with the scariest Stug III:
91/98/106 v 51 for +4/5/7 against Sherman's front armor
Assuming movement, +1/2/3 to hit. 41.66%/27.77%/16.66% to miss
20%/28%/38% (Estimate, I didn't math that far >_>) chance of kill/shot. A bit further if he brings out the bigger gun, and ignoring the fire hazard because this is already scary enough.

In return, we have 95/85/76 V 80 front armor. 0/1/2 pen.
Average SAA gunner: 2 -3/-2/-1) assuming the same. 72%/83.33/91.66% to miss.
.5%/3%/6% average shot to kill >_>
.....So 6 tanks blasting at the Stug close range have a 69% to not kill/ 31% chance to kill, and a 16% at medium range. A bunch of that would still be damaging hits, so if its all V Stug I'll be safe.

Emergency evade would change his chance to kill to be:
EE=1, 0/1/2 58.32%/41.66%/27.77% to miss 72%/58%/42% attacks to kill. Even here, this would be dumb.
EE=3, 0/-1/-2 in the best case. 58.32%/72/83.33 to miss, 42%/28%/17% attacks/kill. Slightly worse than just tanking the shot >_>
