Retrieve artifact mission

Hi, everyone. I've just donwloaded 0.44.09 DF to try new raid missionsmechanics and I have a question about artifacts retrieving missions. Are they even working? Because every time I create the mission my dwarfes just leave to map and come back immediately althouth I'm sending them far enough for the path be visible on the map. Also the report it empty. What am I doing wrong?

It's currently impossible to retrieve artifacts held by individuals. The artifact must be listed as stored in the site.

Also sometimes, the raiders/questers just never return and you never hear from them again.

You can check Legends Mode for deaths. Most likely the lost ones are on an abstract bar hopping for something that wasn't where the rumor said it might be. If the bar hopping is abstracted, it might not result in entries of them visiting site such-and-such. Note that this is guesswork unsupported by any actual data (apart from my party going AWOL when raiding a ruined site with neither death nor any visit notes in Legends Mode a season later (for a site ½ a day's walk away)).

If they die, or are taken prisoner, they're removed from the squad list so you know immediately.

I added a note to the wiki page for Mission. If you know more about problems with missions, you're welcome to correct or expand on it.

In 44.09?
They used to vanish when raiding ruins or tombs. They don't any more. Haven't had anyone vanish on a raid/site search for a while now.

Only in 44.07, I haven't done it in 09 yet
