Making pretty goods
« on: March 22, 2018, 07:06:16 am »

Hey there Folks!
I was wondering if I can butcher and tan those poor humans stuck between all those spiked balls and decorate them with goblin teeth.
I had some pretty hoods in mind!

Is this possible?
Thank you for your time!

Dwarves will not butcher sentient being in vanilla, so no, it's not possible. Unless you want to mod your game

General modding won't work right now either. Even if you change dwarves ethics to allow butchering of sentients, there's a bug that means the game still doesn't actually let you do it.
But I think there's dfhack workaround out there somewhere.

Severed goblin leg decays into bone which can be used in strange mood.

I don't know if its fixed.

I heard that was fixed because of mermaid farming?

I don't know about strange moods, but 0.40.X could use "naturally" butchered bone from sapients for normal crafting. That changed with 0.42. From then on you have to raise the corpses of sapients and butcher arms and legs off of them "naturally". Once those have decayed you can use the bones for crafting (I would guess splattering would be ideal, but I didn't have enough Z levels, and so used weapon traps for my explorations). I don't know if you can use the heads for totems, though...
