Next turn I suggest we use our design phase to work out the properties of oricalchum - we can only beat on crazy old hermits for so long before we run out of crazy old hermits.

The properties of Orichalcum are whatever we say they are. And much like we have an infinite supply of soldiers, we have an infinite supply of philosophers.

I still want giant clockwork statues of Zeus with thunderpunch/thunderbolt action, just speaking for myself.

But right now our process of creating things with oricalchum is "have an idea, let's try to get the oricalchum to behave in a way that works for us" when it could be "have an idea, let's do what we know works to make the oricalchum act how we want". At the very least it'll make further designs easier, allowing us to get more ambitious with whatever we want oricalchum to do. Ambitious like a giant thunderpunching Zeus statue.

I'll write turn tomorrow ( sorry, stayed away from home longer than I thought.

However, before then: in determining scope and efficacy of an action, remember that what you are doing now is a revision, and therefore won't be as good as a design, nor it will be able to advance as much.

Orichalcum Shield
Our engineers used some orichalcum that was left over to experiment to replace our wooden shields. While they haven't touched the design, they managed to create a perfect copy of the wooden shield in orichalcum. With further experimentation we could come up with better designs, but the light material wields well in hand and can therefore be used even in its crude form it has now.

Steropean Bolthead: So, remember when we accidentally created lightning whilst experimenting with spring Orichalcum? Well, we've found a use for it. Turns out that Egypt's alien technology doesn't like lightning. We don't know why, exactly, and whilst philosophers are very interested in the myriad of theories explaining it, all we really care about are results. Which are thus: applying lightning to Egyptian technology will, depending on the intensity, cause it to weaken, behave erratically, or fail outright. Small amounts of lightning can't really cause more than very minor interference, but we've developed a specialised head for the bolts fired by Polianthion- a hollow piece made of spark-Orichalcum that shatters on impact, releasing a burst of lightning. The non-solid nature of the projectiles mean they do less regular damage, but their ability to stop Egyptian machines in their tracks is a worthwhile tradeoff in some situations.

(Very hard)(2,1)-2= 1  Utter failure
The idea might have been good, but the implementation proves… tricky. You never managed to stabilize the electricity producing alloy, much less actually control it in a suitable manner.  Your attempts to do so were met with general failure, prototype ammunition exploding randomly in the hands of soldiers and scholars.

Any effect it would actually have on enemy weapon is, at this time, purely theoretical.

You did, however, figure out a couple more ways to not produce a stable spark orichalcum.

Oh, right. Whoops, sorry, I forgot about this. Anyway, maybe we should do the Steropean Bolthead as a design?

...what do you mean we already tried this?
