(Boredom and unemployment are great motivators to pick up old works)
As the body of the scruffy and malnourished man sits before you, the light having faded, his skin cracked from unfelt heat, you decide to read the book. You had read some of it before, the only part you could intact without it causing horrific headaches. It described only the binding of its internal knowledge. So, on to the new pages.
------------------------
You awake some time later, daylight where there was not before indicating it was atleast a few hours. Dried blood cakes your nose, and seems to have also stained beneath your eyes. From what you can remember reading, the book seems to get increasingly verbose and cryptic in its writing, to the point of devolving into strange characters and diagrams halfway through the book, and you don’t remember anything past that point except a strange tutting noise coming from the voice you heard previously.
For now your practical knowledge includes the importance of blood and sacrifices in most every form of magic described, with temporary or instant effects generally achieved by bloodletting of some kind. More time and care will be needed for anything specific, but you are getting hungry, and probably need to clean up.
