Wait a little bit longer at least until we find out what they are digging for, if it isn't for us or going to bring them to us we should try and contact one of them.

-1 to contacting them directly. We know too little about these beings and their motives to risk revealing our sapience to them. They might realise what we really are and decide to imprison us for another few thousand years, or attempt to destroy us outright. Our approach must be a subtle one.
