Starship Troopers: Extermination
Started playing this about 1.5 months ago and still enjoying playing each day. They delivered their first big content patch a couple weeks ago, and I'm very impressed with how much new content and refined existing content they managed to include. I thought their roadmap was overly ambitious, but now I think they just might pull it off. Very excited for what they still have planned.

I've been rolling with the Steam group 'Joint Space Force', and they have organized groups running hard maps pretty much all day every day.

Playing mostly Diablo 4 for the last few weeks. It's alright. The campaign is meaty AF and it has Skyrim-like levels of side quests and activities to do. I hit World Tier 4 a few days ago. Really all that's left for me to do in the game is run Nightmare dungeons until I puke, hit level 100 and max out my gear. I'll probably move on to something else for a while here soon. It's been a good run but right now there's not enough end-game content to keep me playing every day.

Currently checking out the newest version of Stellaris.

Overall, I'd say the changes have been positive; although I wish they were a little less stingy about the number of leaders you can have without them getting negative experience modifiers - it makes it very hard to get governors for your sectors and admirals for your fleets; much less hiring scientists or, God forbid, generals.

Also opens up some new choices between leaders that are good at what they do, versus ones that have useful abilities while sitting on the council, which are empire-wide bonuses (and maluses.)

It's been a sorta strange game, overall - the current version of the AI likes subjugating its neighbors, leading to huge Ur-Quan-like systems of battle thralls. My empire is in a three-nation federation, and if I try doing anything to any of the surrounding star nations, the entire galaxy explodes into conflict due to WWI-like chains of treaties.

On the other hand, the end-game calamity popped in one of their systems with a good 600-700k of ships... which were smacked down by their combined fleet. I didn't even have to help out, other than to take care of a 100k splinter fleet that wandered into my territory (and killed my space whale breeding system; poor things never stood a chance.)

Recently finished Roadwarden. Got a pretty good ending on my first go, although it really just came together in the final few days (you get 40 days on default to achieve as much as you can.) Lovely game.

Currently playing Go again after a hiatus.

Based on Level, I'm about halfway through Dungeon of Naheulbeuk. The jokes aren't funny, but the entire atmosphere is entertaining and fun. No real replayability (a few quests are pick one of two, and there is a quest for each of 3 companions, 90% of the game is identical). I'm enjoying it, but I'd like to see what they could do with more experience making games.

Edit: And for some reason the background music was Raining Blood's guitar intro. Pretty good.

Apparently they're making a Dungeon Keeper-like in the same universe as Dungeon of Naheulbeuk: "Naheulbeuk's Dungeon Master"

Recently I started a new game in Cataclysm DDA and I'm only a few days in and I've got a few guns and access to a running bus and cargo truck, while I was worried about running out of diesel to run them I just came across a military helipad and I found about five or six hundred liters of JP8 which can be used in place of diesel in the truck, and while that does solve the fuel problem it doesn't it doesn't solve the lack of basic tools.

Also I did something new for this game and set it to eternal night which means that the usual approach of having shit loads of solar panels to solve power issues is out the door which means all that fuel is even more important now.

Decided to whip out the keys for the nostalgia wagon and have since been playing a lot of Dawn of War: Soulstorm recently.

Now, I say "nostalgia", but I never actually played Soulstorm before... Most of my hours were in Dark Crusade. But Soulstorm was on sale and I figured I owed it a real chance.

And... Well... Uhm. I've basically just been playing the campaign, and wew there are some weird decisions here... I mean sure, one thing is the obvious lack of funding evident in the sparseness of voice lines (done by completely different actors who don't voice those units regularly, leading to some interestingly disjointed scenes the few times anyone does say anything), and I really don't remember having this strong of an aversion to stronghold missions compared to DC... Sure, I was younger back then and maybe I was just more interested in the hour+ slogs, but some of these things are just nutty.

(Quick interjection here to complain about how the "Normal" campaign difficulty gives your troops 200% of normal HP, while the next level up of "Hard" puts you at 100%, but the enemies at 120%...)

The general ease of the campaign is also wildly different across factions... Namely because of how equipped certain factions are for dealing with the strongholds.

Dark Eldar lack any form of beefy frontliners to spearhead an assault and break through defensive lines like Orks do, nor do they have artillery like the Guard or even just long-range direct fire like the Tau for dealing with priority targets and softening up an emplacement. Their extreme focus on rushes and harassment completely falls apart when dealing with an already-established defensive bastion and map control.

Meanwhile the Necrons have their normal levels of hilarity with powerful honor guards (that can be both resurrected and even multiplied with the orb), in addition to now having an option that lets them say "Lol I win now" by teleporting an entire army of anti-building specialists directly on top of the HQ building you need to destroy in order to win.

My Dark Eldar win against the Ork stronghold took 1 hour 56 minutes. My Necron win against the Space Marines took 18 minutes.

I've found myself repeatedly booting the game up, wanting to play it, and then wishing it was just a very slightly different game when I do play...

Also is it just me, or is the normal province to stronghold ratio worse in Soulstorm than DC? I feel like I slurp up all the normal provinces in a moment, while skirting around stronghold after stronghold

I haven't seen anyone praising soulstorm as a game (while dark crusade gets a lot more good memories from the players) but it seems the  praise is for the mods of soulstorm that are mostly recognized as the best in the dow series (mostly the Apocalypse and Unification mods) .

After mentioning it in a thread here, I decided to dust off my old new3DS and play the fan-translated Digimon World game on there (Re:Digitize Decode). The characters are awful and I hate them, but I do like feeding meat to little dudes - which is apparently my only requirement to play a game now.

My assault on the Eldar stronghold as the Necrons took me 20 minutes of solid fighting in their fortified "capital area". Their artillery would knock my necrons down, but since even my basic infantry groups had 2k HP, no morale, regeneration, and leader bonuses on top of that they would just heal and stand back up again completely fine again like 3 seconds later... only to be knocked down again after another 0.1 seconds. Sometimes they even got a shot off before they fell back down. They very very slowly managed to whittle down the defensive units and fortifications of the base, and not a single one of these infantry groups actually died. (They did slaughter all the vehicles I sent in during the course of the battle though).

The fight lasted so long that my Monolith even had the time to very slowly inch its across the entire map to get to the battle, and it combined with the base already having taken significant damage was enough to end the fight.

Soulstorm was fine as a game, iirc... not particularly better than dark crusade, but not meaningfully worse, either. Which admittedly is something of a let down for a sequel, but it's not like it's unenjoyable as a base game experience.

... that said, yeah, you mod the hell out of soulstorm because the mods for soulstorm are pretty much the peak of DoW modding. All sorts of neat stuff going on on that front, probably unambiguously a better reason to get the game than the base game itself.

I swear a solid 50% of DoW memes I've seen come from Soulstorm's voice acting, since it gave us gems like "METAL BAWKSES", Spehs Marines, and "multiple simultaneous devastating defensive deep strikes".

Iirc, Relic outsourced Soulstorm to a different company as well, which is why it has a bit of a knock off feel.
