Your name is Elia Opal, and this morning you finally received a sticker from ReWheels, the rideshare company you applied to last week. With that slapped on the windshield of the old '78 Lincoln Continental, you can finally start making some much-needed extra cash. Some would say you'd make more money selling the old thing, a classic car still in working condition. Well, if you could call it working. But it's the only car you've got, and it's gotten you this far.

Unfortunately, you've been having a rotten first day. You've had some trouble figuring out how the app works, for one. And between that and an unusually patchy connection, you've gotten sniped on every single call that's popped up on your radar. It's surprising how many other drivers are in this area today. Then again, you've never really needed to use a rideshare service before. But still, it's been a long and frustrating day. You're almost ready to pack it in for the night when, as the sun's heading to set, you get a notice from a nearby bookstore, someone wanting to reach a spot outside the city limits. Holy shit, finally!

You pull up outside the bookstore to find a rather impatient-looking man standing there, wearing something between business and casual, as if he'd gotten off work but hadn't had a chance yet to fully change outfits. As soon as he sees the sticker on your car, he dashes for the rear door on the passenger side and climbs in. Welp.

You check the name on the app and repeat it. "Are you..."

"Are you..."
"...ready to pay upfront? Because I'm not driving you anywhere until I am assured you can properly compensate me."

Like we care about his name as long as he got the cash! Being broke is serious business!

I'm pretty sure that because this is not-uber, they're not actually supposed to give us cash straight up.

Take the man where he wants to go.

I'm not going to do literally President Jimmy Carter works ridesharing.
But we could have been the former president, instead of some random guy.

(Perhaps that was a bad place to put a name prompt, and I apologize. Enough with the presidents though, pls.)

Without really paying it much mind, you confirm the man's name. "Yeah, yeah, that's me," he says, flashing you his phone screen as he fumbles for the seatbelt on the backseat of your old car. After about a minute, he seems to be getting a bit flustered, and says "Just go, please, I'll find it in a minute. Please."

Your question seems to have momentarily disarmed the man, as you see in your rear mirror. "Huh? Who the heck- what?"

You look down at the name on your app again. Roger Williams. Well... that's a tad depressing. But this guy looks nothing like a certain beloved actor. "Like, Peter Pan- nevermind. Find that seatbelt yet?"

"Oh!" You hear a click behind you as you reach the intersection. At least you won't get ticketed now. As you wait for the light to change, you also hear him tapping his foot rapidly, only slowing somewhat when you finally make the turn. You start heading for the freeway, since that'll let you cut down on the stops on street-level and this guy's clearly in a hurry of some kind. Though, you wonder whether or not you should strike up a conversation.
