I forgot to drop in and remind Moonstone Flower to pick this up, so I'll send a PM.

If they don't respond in a day or two, we'll move onto FishboyLiam.

Oh, bloody...

OK, so since it has been more than two weeks and nobody else has posted, should I just grab the save and start my turn anyways?

If you're going to play, might as well.

Should I just throw it in 0.44.12, or is there reason to use an older version?

No reason to use the older version, go ahead and upgrade it.

I have the save, and will start playing later today.  If someone else would like to step in and take a turn instead, go right ahead and switch with me.

So, I've been told that, while I was sleeping for a week(what proper dwarf'd go with any less'n five days, I ask ya!), I was passed over for overseer, and then the right bastards came back and made me overseer anyways.

So, fine, you bloody dicks, I'll take a look aroun-

Why in the name of Ballballs the Round Rounded Ball-Ball of Balls tree is there a stockpile for exactly:
  • Soap
  • Highwood logs
up in the north?!

Not jes' tha', but some moron saw fit to store bits o' dwarf, elf, an' human next to th' butcher's!  Mind you, I'm gonna chunder right there every time I see a bit o' any o' them lying around.  No, you daft twits, don't drop bits o' sentients there!

Don't tell me I'm the least stressed of us, that'll be short-lived at this rate!  Right dicks, the lot of you.  Think you're hilarious, I bet.

Must have smelled that cursed dead human in the water.  Sod off, ya cunts!  We gotta get a roof over our heads out here.  We got plenty of nickel, let's make our stairs out of that.

And someone collect some clay!

Great, we have more access to soap now.

Well that's bloody lovely.  What do you lot expect, coming here?  Sure, we aren't using dead trees for jack all, but we aren't using stone for jack all either!  Maybe they'll like some nice axes.

Reg, what the hell is this bloody rubbish you're spewing?

Imic, no, mate, you're not fooling anyone with that.  "Dabbling Mason" my arse.  (Why is Masonry set on Imic, anyways?)

You cheeky bastards.

If Imic gets to claim 'e's dabbled in masonry, so do I.

Litast, if you pop out a sprog in the forge area, you don't get to complain if it burns in the furnaces.  Moron.

 - - -

Tenth of Slate, and we've worked through the backlog of outstanding tasks.  Now we prepare for the tower.  Ash will be stockpiled, and burned to pearlash, before being brought to the furnaces for our great glass floors and walls.

Alright, so, clear glass is fine, right?  What about crystal glass, considering that it requires rock saltcrystal(?)(a stone)?

Crystal glass is in keeping with the spirit of the challenge (that being to utilize the more expensive tier 2 and 3 materials instead of cheap tier 1's), so it's fine.

I'm guessing the highwood logs were being stockpiled for waterwheels and beds? And the dabbling masons... slabs? If you can prove there's been foul play (ie. find any fortress-made stone/woodwork), feel free to "impose the curse of Atir" on the overseer responsible. :p

Glad to hear glass is being made. :)

It'd be more certain to simply mod/hack out the relevant reactions of player entity.

You'd still need masonry to, say, build soap supports however. Ditto for carpentry and wood trade depots.

[...] wood trade depots.

Isn't that kind of thing forbidden, too?  ^_^;  Wooden/stone structures.  Although I suppose you'd need to do that at first, to bootstrap the production of other materials, unless other stuff was brought on embark.

As for slabs, wouldn't glass/metal sarcophogi be used instead?  Only time you'd need a slab is for those who can't be buried at all(atom-smashed/melted).

P.S.  We have so bloody much stone that I actually had some of it hauled to the trade depot, hoping to trade it away.  But I'm wondering what else can be done with it, aside from the obvious rock crystal and the flux stones.

Udil?  What are you bloody doing?

Bars, cloth, tree chunks, and gems?  We have all of those, you wanker

OK, we have cloth and thread of all kinds, plenty of ingots, many logs, and I've even taken up gemcutting for this, and yet she still won't leave the bloody forge.  Moron.

Looking through the overseer's notes, I see that she likes bronze - go smelt some cassiterite-

That can't be right, you lot said you were clear to smelt.  Imic, show me our records of stone...

You lazy shits.

What do you mean "we only take from these piles"?  Get your arses down there and smelt the bloody cassiterite or I will smite you myself.

Well, that's... something.  Practical, yet not the greatest of things.

While Udil was working, I started two mid-term projects.  One, standing orders to mine out all of the ore and gems below us in the exploratory shafts; two, starting a nickel-block wall around the longhouse.  The gate and the foundations of the gatehouse are already in place, with a fair chunk of the lower section of the walls and watchtowers constructed.  It is Hematite now...at this rate, the bottom layer should be entirely finished and ready for use.

looking good

That western section should serve well as a split pasture and farm, and the eastern half can quite well have a ceiling to protect us from any infernal rain that may come by.

Of course, as I'm thinking this, a bloody human shows up.  She's unarmoured, but I can swear that the spear she has strapped to herself is an artefact, of dwarf make.

bloody suspicious, you prick

She hailed herself as "the human law-giver".  Considering her lack of armour, she's either telling the truth, is over-confident, or is an idiot.  Considering that she's a human, she's almost certainly an idiot.

I hereby call an emergency meeting to determine the fate of this artefact-toting human.  What do you lot think should happen to her?

Edit:  Update, she brought a Lasher and an Axeman with her.
Edit to the Edit:  Axe, not Ass.  How does that happen?!

Instead of nickel-block wall (which is boring gray), maybe consider garnierite block wall (eye-searing green).

I also suggest following the river curve for your outer walls.

Iron spear is going to be worse than steel-crafted spear, so I'd say investigate the history but leave it in their hands as it is relatively useless beyond item value.
That she's a law-giver, an important human position, is more interesting. Would be nice to seduce her to join the fortress, if possible, as a diplomatic coup. With the accompanied Lasher and Axeman, you sure she isn't member of human caravan?

Stone blocks?  Har!  (But really, I thought that such would be disallowed.)

I also suggest following the river curve for your outer walls.
Probably should have, but getting that path on the inside along with it seemed more effort than I was willing to expend.

True, it isn't as good as artefact steel, but artefact iron is still pretty nice.

seduce
Given what's been going on in games and chat lately, all I see is the one word.  Roll to seduce.

With the accompanied Lasher and Axeman, you sure she isn't member of human caravan?

There's no caravan at all at the moment, and she has "Attend meeting", so I figure that our status with the humans wasn't exactly friendly.  I've always seen human law-givers arrive with an escort of two like this, so that didn't strike me as odd.
