Since I'm the original poster lemme throw this question out too:

Does DF and music go hand in hand, or do you feel its much more a visual experience?

Honestly I think music + DF's indepthness can rival any MMORPGs addictiveness in terms of not allowin you to notice the outside world.

I've missed three important phone calls today, so far.

I don't listen to any music while I play DF, my PC lacks speakers except for those annoying bleeps that the box makes. And those are only on retro games from the 80's.

I find anything by Godspeed You! Black Emperor fits DF quite well, especially Sleep and The Dead Flag Blues.  If you haven't heard GYBE, check them out now, their music is amazing.

Woah... I normally just listen to the DF music itself (I absolutely love it!), but the haunting violin of Arcanum would be pure awesome as well. I'll have to reinstall that (it would have already been installed, but didn't get it put back on when I upgraded my computer; I need to get DD back on as well) just so I can play the music while playing DF!

I probably would have thrown something if it had started playing 10 or 15 minutes into looking for The Perfect Spot™ when starting a fortress.  Luckily (I guess...) I can't buzzsaw someone in half by chucking a dead butterfly.

Youtube has The Dead Flag Blues. Not at all a fan but different strokes and all that.

That makes me think of Miles Davis and Bitches Brew. Pharaoh's Dance. Great background music for me.

In dwarf mode I usually listen to a song called 'Steel me' from another game called Ragnarok. It has a very good dwarfy vibe, in my opinion, and the industrial beat is nice to 'work' (mine, craft, etc) to.

When the gobbos come, I usually put on this song, mostly because it has a nice action rhythm and somewhat fits with the guitar strumming DF originally comes with. Also because the goblins usually don't last as long as the song.
