magic and golems
« on: June 05, 2018, 09:00:44 pm »

well the magic update is coming so I have a sugestion
what if the dwarfs were able to create golems?
i think the mason would make the golem body and then a wizard dwarf should make some sort of ritual to animate it
golems could be used on battle or for hauling

what do you guys think of it?

The magic system will be procedurally generated. So, in one world, golems will not exist, they will be made in different ways. One magic system is boring.

The dev notes on the magic release say:
Quote
Automatons and magical prostheses
That's golems. So, no need to suggest their existence. Tarn's also mentioned them directly in Fotf replies and elsewhere.

If you have actual new ideas about what golems would do in worlds which have them, that would be great.

Ha, sorry yeah, I was meant to add a link to the dev notes.
Generally everything there is already planned, but a lot of it, especially the far off stuff, is only planned in very vague detail. So suggestions on how one would go about implementing any of this are great. As are things that seem to be forgotten.

There's also a longer list linked to at the top of the suggestions forum. That's even more vague and far off.

Finally, in time honored dwarf fortress tradition of hiding all the info all over the place, there's a monthly q&a with Toady (in the Future of the Fortress thread). There's a lot of more detailed info in there somewhere, but it's pretty hard to dig out.

Then there's Dftalk too, kind of a more controlled q&a. Link is on the front page (although the last one was quite a while ago).

Oh, and don't forget the info from various seminar videos. Some, but not all, of which can be found on the front page too (under Links).
