Totally Accurate Battlegrounds
« on: June 05, 2018, 11:36:22 pm »

As far as i know this one popped-up from nowhere, its basically a PUBG parody from the creator of Totally accurate battle simulator and its free(forever) for the next 80 hours or so, it will be pay to play after that. Servers seem to be collapsed right now, but from the brief shooting range experience it could be fun, has derpy movement, dual wielding and some over the top weapons.

So they turned their April fools joke into an actual game.  Not actually surprised.

Edit: Looked it up, this is what these guys do.

Quote from: The game's Steam page
FEATURES:
  • Huge map
  • Physics-based EVERYTHING
  • Unit Customization
I'm guessing that part is probably to blame, heh.

Anyway, I'll tell my high-end PC-owning, battle royale-game-playing friends to grab this!

I was still on the fence about PUBG, maybe I'll hold off now.

Played a bit of the shooting range. Has a very large selection of weapons, melee weapons, grenades, and shields. I've discovered a bug, if you use "gangsta style"(G), which holds your gun(or crossbow, or shield) sideways and makes you start beatboxing, then exit the shooting range, then re-enter the shooting range, your previous beatboxing sound will play constantly over where you were with no way to turn it off.

One of the possible clothing sets is Where's Waldo?. That is hilarious.

Extremely cute and a playable battle royal game! Really nice considering the unbeatable price of free. Its a hot mess when it comes to bugs and performance though, sticking true to the pubg namesake :P

The biggest problem I'm seeing now is that squads and solos are being put into the same games. A large portion of my deaths so far have been from two dudes standing right next to each other... and oddly in every case both were wearing purple tank tops. It's an intentional design choice, I know, but it's rather irritating.

Looks like current player peak fell to 5568 after the game went offline, which is actually higher than expected. F2P period contributed greatly to game's success but it might actually turn out to be sustainable even after.

At minimum, hopefully there's less server outages now.

One thing I will say is that if you're actually looking for a battle royale game, this is probably not for you. It's only merit at the moment is as a lighthearted joke; as an actual game it makes alpha PUBG look like a masterpiece.

My biggest current gripe with it is that the map starts closing in the second the match starts. This potentially closes off useful areas of the map right away, and makes the opening bloodbath much worse by herding everyone into a tight spot too quick.

While I totally understand the humor and appreciate that ragdoll combat can be fun, the rest of the game is a bit of a dumpsterfire. There's a lot of game breaking bugs; every few rounds you'll come across some core mechanic breaking down. While a couple of these issues have been fixed, in one session I came across:

Repeatedly having to reload the lobby to get into a match.
Being put into matches with no other players.
Losing half of my HP while still in the spawning trucks.
My entire team being unrevivable and unkillable.
FPS drops down to single digits.
Buildings spawning on top of me.
Falling through the map.
Game crashes.
Weapon reticle no longer centering.
Wrong audio sourcing with silenced weapons.
Duplicates of my squadmates appearing on the map and in my squad list.
Squadmates not appearing on the map at all.

And this is on top of very bad design decisions, like a mostly-unusable map, some of the worst netcode I've ever seen, and the lack of any matchmaking. I know I'm taking what was a free comedy game way too seriously, but there's a lot that could be improved, and I can't really recommend actually paying for it at the moment. It might be good for a laugh, but it's beyond bad as a battle royale or fps.

I find Cuisine Royale (yet another April fools joke + temporary F2P) is better than TABG, and the former also has whole slew of problems such as poor character control. Its good sound & graphics makes me excited for proper AAA battle royale though.
