Kara did not mention the fact that they had no news from them during all this time. She hoped some weird effect was to blame, maybe time moving slower in the vision. She didn't like to consider the alternative.

"That's the thing, we don't know exactly how long either of us will take. A few hours might matter, it might not. Hell, should they indeed finish before we do they could get a ride here, like you said, and we could all meet up here and explore the city together! Wouldn't that be even better? Really, this city isn't going anywhere anytime soon, we'll have plenty of time to stop here later on. Business first, then pleasure, as they say.

A good point on the ant location though, that sounds like the kind of thing we should tell the locals about asap. We could probably radio it in or send a message with the details, I don't think we need to do it in person per se."

Stay in front, murakumo drawn and ready, while Ashul dives.  After the dive, be ready to counter the figure's attack.  If it doesn't attack, and if anything aside from nothing happens, charge forward and attempt to decapitate it.

Why you skip my dream action. You monster.  :o

Anyways, pay for our fuel using the pilgrim escort earnings. I think we used around 63 fuel currently (though it wasn't entirely clear if the place we are currently stopping at should be counted as 'inside the city' on the overworld(?) map) and I just did a quick count. Ok for you if we pay 63 fathoms to refuel fully?

Ask for a map of the city with the various districts and places of interest, if they have none just ask them some questions and sketch a simple map on some paper while we refuel.

Spoiler: Adam Blavatsky Darvaza (click to show/hide)

You hand 63 fathoms over to the attendants to completely refuel the bore. While they refuel you climb down and buy a map of the city for a fathom. Its one of those scroll maps, all nice and tightly bound up between two thin metal cases with locking clasps. When its closed it just looks like a little box and when you open the clasps and pull the two sides apart, the map unspools between them.  The city is quite huge but from what you can see, most of the trading and industry is over on this side, while the other side is a sort of ring of living areas with the bulk of the church's buildings within that ring.

Look at the cool things!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Cool is what you make of it but considering your species you are drawn a bazaar stand offering books, scrolls, and other records and information. The proprietor is a well traveled looking Shluck judging by his decorated and heavily adorned exosuit. The merchendise doesn't seem to be organized in any way, just stacked up on tables and on the ground in precarious towers of leather and velum. Behind the man is a set of metal boxes of all different origins, each filled with scrolls stacked like wine bottles in a rack.

We can invite Cara to join us for hugs to cheer them up, if they want.

Just look around and visit any places of interest. If we're going to be here for a while, it might be a good idea to have a look around and explore the city.

Spoiler: Kalagony (click to show/hide)
The city is pretty goddamn big. Just walking into it would be a very time consuming thing. They run crawlers from here into sections of the city though for a fathom, round trip. You check and the listed destinations are:
Grand Cathedral Square
Lower Markets
Upper Markets
Caverntop Historic district
Necropolis of Saints
Faithful Catacombs
Shadowed Gardens
Overlook walkways
Outer Farms

Kara felt a tear forming at the corner of her eye. She didn't know why but something about that woman's story... affected her somehow. She wasn't sure what she was feeling, whether she was impressed or sad or afraid or something else. But she knew she couldn't deal with her surging, chaotic emotions right now. And she couldn't have a break down right in the middle of the street. So she abandoned her attempts to sketch the statue and run as fast as she could back to the bore, searching for something friendly and familiar.

...

"Hey everyone!" Kara said, raising her voice to catch the attention of those in the crew quarters with her.
"I'm going out to explore this wonderful City and I'm sure many of you plan to do so as well." she continued as she finished rearranging her belongings. Satisfied with her things, she raised her head to look at those in the room as she explained her plan.

"My first goal is to find either a representative of the Ethral Archives or the Cthonic Church who would be interested in knowing the location of the Giant Ant Nest. I don't think I'll be able to sell that information for much, but if nothing else it's the right thing to do. We don't want anyone else stumbling into it by accident. They might be less lucky than we were. Unless any of you disagree, of course, in which case I'd be happy to listen to your thoughts on the matter."

"My second goal is to see what is needed to set up a meeting with Deep Walker Leon. I'm certain he's a very busy man and he might not even be here, so I think it would be a good idea to contact his... secretary? Do Deep Walkers have secretaries? Umm, anyway, it would be a good idea to see if we can set up an appointment for when we next come through Empyrean."

"So, if anyone wants to accompany me, I would be happy to have you with me! And as for the rest, remember to keep your radios on, be careful and meet you back here in, umm, 8 hours?"

((Not going through with the above plan this turn to give everyone time to respond and so as to not overwhelm piecewise with lots of descriptions.))

Do I remember noticing any non-human statues amongst those of the Church members and Saints? Or is it impossible/forbidden for non-humans and non-abominations to become high ranking members?

Spoiler: "Kara" the Corven (click to show/hide)
There were a few; mostly abominations but also Ethral, Shluck, and Corven. You don't remember seeing a Mole or a Lizard. Such things are not expressly forbidden anywhere but you know how the politics of faith are.

After driving all the way there, Vikkan was tired but satisfied. He groomed his mustache with a hand as he considered Kara's offer while sitting on the control room's floor. Staying in the

Relic Team

"Aright, here goes. If this works, attack. If it doesn't work, be prepared to run to safety."

Dive. Goal is to control my rope to wrap around the idolguy's limbs while avoiding being cut to shreds.

Balaram, Reinforce x2
(Telazch)
Es, reinforce x3

8 nerve rolls + final Nerve roll + final Balaram (knowledge) rolls. don't forget the diving bonus.

Spoiler: Vision Notes (click to show/hide)
(4,   16,   6,   2,   12,   15,   10,   14) (6, 7)

You coil the rope out onto your arm and then close your eyes, diving quickly. When you open them again a moment later the rope has already started unspooling from your arm, slithering off across the ground towards the Idol man like a high speed snake. It reaches his feet, spirals in, and then leaps up off the ground, coils rising with it. The idol man plants his staff and shoves down on it, propelling himself into the air as the coils contract. They close on empty air as he just barely escapes the attack.

"Allright Abdul, I'll be following your lead."

If Ashul manages to tie the figure up, take aim with my rifle and fire on him if I have a clear line of fire. Try and aim for the head.

If Ashul does not manage to tie him up, make sure Nyw is between me and the figure.

Spoiler: Clate (click to show/hide)

You carefully take a step back to put Nyw between you and the front flipping bugman.

"Good luck with that," you say, patting his lower back, which is about as close to a pat on the shoulder as you can reach. Fugging giants.

"Aim for the head, that should be its weakspot."

Shoot the idol figure in the head.
Spoiler: Alex Wells (click to show/hide)
[17]
You raise the rifle to your shoulder and attempt to take a snap shot at the creature as it comes down from the leap. Your shot echos with surprising sound in the cold mountain air and you see a small corner of the idol's mask shatter and fly off. Damn. Close.

Stay alive, basically. Can't heal much if I die or get squished. Get ready to pop a shot off if the opportunity presents itself.

Character Sheet
[2]
You peek out from your hiding spot in the mouth of the tunnel that leads up to this plain and snap a shot off at the idol as it lands. The round catches it not in the body but in the weapon, rebounding off the side of the moon shaped blade with a spray of sparks. You curse and go to fire again when you notice that the old cartridge has gotten jammed, preventing the weapon from cycling.

Stay in front, murakumo drawn and ready, while Ashul dives.  After the dive, be ready to counter the figure's attack.  If it doesn't attack, and if anything aside from nothing happens, charge forward and attempt to decapitate it.

You draw your blade and charge towards the idol as it  lands, coming onto it just after a round rebounds off its weapon. Small fragments of metal from the shattered round spray back onto you, but you ignore them. [5] You duck a slash from the  moon blade and side step a rising kick, spinning and using the momentum from the dodge to power a horizontal slash. You cut straight into the creature's mask, right at about the mid point. You cleave it straight in two and the creature shrieks out a warbling insect cry. [6] You leap back as the creature takes a wild swing at you with the weapon. You dodge the cut but catch the blunt edge of the weapon and get batted a dozen feet back. You roll and end up on your back. You jerk yourself up into a kneeling crouch and watch as the Idol swings twice more, clearly blind, and then topples over backwards, crumbling into an ashy substance as it does.
