Try translating the Gemstone People Diary that appeared to be about some sort of construction project. Maybe it can offer hints to the location of another interesting ruin. Even if it's not enough on its own it might be enough if cross referenced with other info from the library.

I'll assume the pilgrims paid us what we had agreed on? If yes:

"That all went well enough all things considered. Now for the longer part of our journey. Ya'll better make yourselves comfortable in there."

After that, let's-a-go to the empyrean! We'll be refueling there, should have enough fuel left to get there comfortably.

Spoiler: Adam Blavatsky Darvaza (click to show/hide)
That will cost 24 fuel by my reckoning.  Hope this is being kept track of.

"Our short meeting with enormous and dangerous beasts aside, things have gone well." Vikkan commented as he watched the pilgrims leave, mustache trembling slightly, before he approached Kara and gave her right shoulder a friendly pat. "Don't feel discouraged about being shot down, a proper pilgrimage's a matter of faith."

And since Kalagony had looked a bit shaken, he ended up looking for him, if only so he wouldn't have too bad an image of the Corven. "Hey, Kalagony. Don't take what Kara said too harshly, this last pair of days she's been through more excitement—good or bad—than most people might see in their entire lives. You might've wanted to get to know her a little better before making that offer."

After the pilgrims have left and payment has been confirmed, it's time to run the jewels 👉 🤛.

Gonna assume you're following the above plan.

Wait around
Ok.

We're going to this Empyrean place? Make self comfortable... find a random person or robot or prop to cuddle in the bore.

Spoiler: Aigresaur (click to show/hide)
You cuddle the above man. I forget his name as he is a sheetless swine. But you cuddle him good.

Kalagony, in disbelief after seeing Kara's reaction to his honest request, had left the control room and returned to his room to think about the situation. He then remembered the female honored dead he noticed in the control room had requested to talk with him, and followed Cara's scent up until her current location.

"...I don't think I have introduced myself to you yet, have I? Please call me Kalagony. Did you need help with something, Honored Dead?"
Cara handed Kalagony her introduction paper, now a lot better and more concise.

The book talks about several things. First, according to what you can infer, the stuff that Adam brought back is some sort of powerful toxin or disease. The words don't translate perfectly but the closest you get is "Tiny Eater of All". It seems to be a weapon and quite dangerous. The construction, which is marked as being pretty damn deep, is apparently near the Molten Heart and is some manner of energy weapon. The writer doesn't know exactly what but they say it "Feeds on the Great Heart of Fire" and "Awaits awakening to destroy the enemies of the True people." There are no exact coordinates but it must be either directly on the edge of the Heart or very near it.

Simply follow mustachio and the rest of the group for now.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Ok.

The path back to the Abyssal path and the short ride up are all fairly ordinary and banal, but that changes as soon as the bore's shuddering ascent ends at the entrance to the pilgrim's path. The Pilgrim's path is not the same utilitarian arched tunnel that forms the normal paths; it is a cathedral that stretches for miles. Its more tightly packed with foot traffic, crawlers, and other vehicles than any other single path you've seen so far; Vikkan has to sit at the controls and carefully guide the bore forward one step at a time to prevent it from accidentally crushing any hapless pilgrims. Processions of men in all hue of black robes walk in lock step, censers and great burners of incense atop long black steel poles spewing enough heavy aromatic smoke to cloud the path in a gray haze. Orbs of a dull orange fire drift to and fro like wandering candleflame stars, bathing the room in a somber amber light. They are not affixed to anything; apparently some construct created with diving.

The walls, floor and ceiling are all completely covered in ornamentation. The walls are carved with massive niches, in which stand the solid stone statues of saints and church members; each standing taller than the bore and rendered with borderline inhuman skill. Flowing banners rendered in stone proclaim their names and titles, while metal plaques at their feet give more detailed information. Upon closer inspection each statue is seen to be moving; its clothing flowing, its banners flapping in unseen wind, its serene or stern face looking down at the worshipers with watching eyes. It happens slowly and with lethargic grace, but it does happen.  Above them the ceiling is engraved with scenes from the history of mankind in the underground and stories from the Black book. The carvings, which are deep and three dimensional enough to be considered statues in their own right, have been painted and the combined effect, particularly through the domed cockpit of the bore, is staggering. Without careful inspection and thought, it would be easy to believe those images were real people and scenes frozen in time. It is particularly disorienting if looked at too long, as it distorts the viewer's perception of movement and makes them feel as though they are slowly descending rather than moving forward and looking up.  And, if one stares long enough without trying to tear their attention away, they begin to hear sermons about the scenes, each playing out in their mind as they observe.

The ground is covered in untold millions of tiles in countless colors. Looking down at them they appear entirely meaningless and random however when one looks down the length of the tunnel the random colors coalesce into a mosaic, its shapes only revealed when looking towards the Capital of the Church. This mosaic displays images from the time before, images of the world above, long whispered in stories. Green lands of soft plants, like moss or mold but different, which bloomed into sunburst flowers, all vibrantly colored. The hateful sky locked behind blue and white once more. The twinkling stars of night. Wood and Trees in abundance, riches beyond imagining, animals docile and numerous. Infinite plains to walk across without effort. These scenes faded into view like a hallucinatory vision; coalescing from chaos as you get close enough to perceive them.  Oddly, despite the constant traffic of feet, crawlers, and bores, the tiles are still in perfect condition.

Along the way, Adam sees something. One of the enormous statues along the way is of a woman. This is not uncommon but he recognizes the name. "Saint Polyantha Ret the Consumed"  He has never seen the woman his friend mentioned, but the woman depicted by the statue is a somewhat matronly looking woman, stern faced and well muscled without being bulky. Her hair is done up in a braid that encircles her head and she holds what looks like an open black book in one hand, with her other arm outstretched. The outstretched arm ends just before the wrist in what look like carved swirls of steam or smoke. Much of the entire right side of her body including part of her face is also gone or hidden in that steam or smoke. She wears the outfit of one of the Deep Walkers, the soldier priests of the church.

Because of the slowed progress that the cramped path creates, it will take a day or two to reach the City. Vikkan Continues until he's too tired to keep going safely and then parks the bore off to the side of the path to get some sleep.

Relic Team

"I might have a solution. To the issue of the creature in front of us, not to the issue of the mountains smashing everything. Wait here."

AsHul walks briskly back to the red building and scoops up the unbroken idols. Still five of them? He brings them all back to the group and calls Nyw over, handing him the one that most closely resembles the insect dude.

"Show this to the fella. Perhaps this is a key of sorts, and he is the door. If he steps aside, we cna simply pass by. If he doesn't react, come back here and break the idol. If he does react violently, we'll be ready, I think."

Spoiler: Vision Notes (click to show/hide)
Nyw will follow Ashul's orders, but will gently pull Clate away from the figure first.  He won't force the Shluck, but would really rather it not stand so close.

To specify, Nyw will go back with Ashul, take the idol that looks most similar to the insect figure, and offer it to him.  If that achieves nothing, he will verbally order the figure to stand down.  If that still achieves nothing, or if the idol can't be moved, Nyw will smash the idol.  While standing *away* from the figure.

You walk back and attempt to pick up the first unbroken idol. It slides from your fingers. You grab it with both hands and tug but it remains firmly affixed to the wall. You try it with each one in turn but the only one you can pick up is the already broken one. You even get Nyw to try and his great strength can't budge the idols an inch. He tries to smash the one that resembles the guardian you've run into and it resists his blows effortlessly.

Wait for AsHul to return.

Auft hums thoughtfully. She remembers the trees.

Consider what I know about relic vision quests and what I can make out of the guardian. Is it likely to be a monster to be overcome, a manifestation of the relic's history or purpose, or what? What's the stereotypical thing to do when faced with something like this on such a quest?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Hmm from what you remember and what you can guess, those idols are probably locks of some kind, which will only break when the guardian they are connected to is killed. Once they're all killed, the core will appear. That's your guess, if you had to make one.

Try to remain un-squished. Was there any blood or soft meats or bones hiding in the dead idolman or was he exactly like the idol? Mostly for clarification purposes.

The dead idolman was...it like he was transformed. He's not made of flesh or stone but something in between, like some sort of compressed ash.

Well, now that everyone has backed up it has sat back down. It seems to be reacting to distance or perhaps perceived hostile intent. Chances are that if you got too close it would probably attack.

Rest for a while, then back to driving.

Adam stared in awe at the impressive statues and engravings displayed before them on the path, but what truly mesmerized him was the mosaic displaying the world as it once had been. Not even Gran's stories and his young imagination had been able to capture the magnificence and simple beauty of the world as it once had been. This was a dream worth fighting for.

It took him quite a while to notice that the bore had stopped before he snapped out of his reverence and found the pilot resting after a long day's work.
"Might as well take a cue here and take a nap myself."

Rest up a bit as well. Dream of the world as it was, perhaps?

[Hugs]
Observe politely while thanking Adam. . .before he sleeps.
((So since I've NO idea how the internal area of the Bore is structured, I'll just assume I can pass by or otherwise see what others are doing without restriction?))

Cara kept near the sleepy Adam while wondering what she could do while on times like these on the Bore. Travel meant quite a thing--but she had...different needs than others, as she had learned.

They had closed eyes, or were focused onto others whom they cared about and reciprocated their motions. She wondered what exactly they were feeling; how deep must be the thoughts of those that needed sleep, dreams, and companionship.

She had that daily feeling of regret; perhaps this was tied to that context? She had always wanted to grow deeper in relations with others, just like how she learned about the depth of dreams and thoughts by listening to others back in the village she was...raised in.

Perhaps there was a lot more to learn in philosophy. She was happy she could count every second down to the next cycle of the day, anyway!

Also contemplate on my own regrets and sorrows while watching over the rest of the resting party.

"Oh dear." Kara whispered.
A weapon of mass destruction? If such a thing fell in the wrong hands... there's no telling what might happen! ... Oh, no! This might even be the thing responsible for the death of their entire race!
She shivered slightly and looked around to make sure nobody was watching her. She was struggling to deal with a group of people. She definitely wasn't ready to handle a weapon of unimaginable destruction. Just thinking of the responsibility made her feel sick.
Okay, okay, no reason to panic, it's just some old text, I can't know exactly what it means. But if it does mean... I must keep this a secret. I can't take the risk of anyone learning about this.
She quickly moved to hide the tablet. Out of sight and hopefully out of mind, for now.
Not yet anyway. Perhaps sometime in the future we could claim the Great Destroyer for ourselves. Maybe dismantle it or keep it safe until it is needed. But that is going to be a military installation. It could be much more dangerous.
She'd seen how powerful and impressive the Gemstone People's technology could be. She didn't want to risk treading a place where she could end up facing several of their most advanced military constructs.
I need to wait until we are ready to deal with such a thing. And until I'm confident we are ready to handle the responsibility of owning such a thing. I'm not ready. I need more. I need more information. I need more power. I need more control. I need- I need... I need more time to think.

Kara walked up to the ladder leading up to the Control Room.
Okay, small problems first. I need to let Adam know how dangerous that All-Eater is. But if I tell him that he might be curious about how I learned that information.
She very carefully climbed up the ladder, trying her best to be quiet so that she wouldn't end up waking Vikkan (if he was already asleep). Her progress was further slowed by the fact she had to use one arm.
He might ask to see the diary for himself. What if he learns about the Great Destroyer and then tries to claim it for his precious church? Or tells some church official about it? No, I can't let that happen. I need a convincing lie. Maybe I could just say it's just some story I heard?
She reached the top and slowly pulled herself up and onto the floor.
At least I don't have to deal with this right now. I could use a distraction. Like that statue. It would be interesting to see if this woman resembles the one Clate described. Do they share more than a name? Could she be a hero, selling things she found in her adventures?
She leaned as close to the dome as she could, searching for the statue.

Make sure to lock that Gemstone People Diary in my chest in the bore's storage room.

Go up to the Control Room and look outside. If we're still close, watch the statue of Polyantha Ret. Watch its movements. Then try sketching it. If I have time and it's not dangerous to go outside, go and read her inscription and copy it on a piece of paper.
