Island [SG]
« on: June 23, 2018, 01:56:30 am »

This is a group suggestion game where the players control a single character.

Island
an SG

You awaken in the white sand shore of a tropical island. The sun is blindingly bright and hot, and shorebirds cry and wheel overhead, occasionally dipping down into the sapphire blue waters that stretch out before you. The shoreline is smooth and sandy here, but you can see birds perched on rocky outcroppings further out into the water. Behind you a jungle canopy looms, casting cool shadows from the branches of tall palms.

You try to remember where you are, who you are, but everything is fuzzy. You remember a ship of some sort, people screaming, dark waters rising through the passages, but nothing more. Perhaps time will reveal more about your past, but for now you feel that the heat of the sun is a more pressing concern.

Looking down, you notice a small waterlogged cat seated in front of you. It steps up onto your foot and meows at you, as though it expects you to sort out its present situation.
What do you do?

Search the beach, we probably aren't the only thing that washed up.

Island
an SG

First things first, you pet the kitty. It rubs up against your ankle and purrs. You decide to call it Ration. There is definitely no double meaning behind that. No sir. The kitten seems to like the name though, so it's all well enough anyways.

Next order of business, you think it's probably a good idea to search the beach for anything that washed in with you, before the tide can take it back out to sea. You and Ration set off down the beach in search of treasure.

The first thing you find is a small wooden crate, half buried in the sand. You can't read the writing on the box, but the wood looks like it's thin. You decide against kicking it on account of your lack of shoes, but you could probably bash it open with a big stick, or even just a rock. You drag it above the tide line and keep searching. Oof. It sure was heavy.

The shore is covered in splinters of driftwood here, and you collect a handful as you go. Who knows? It might come in useful as kindling or something. Ration catches a ghost crab like the little predator he(?) she(?) is, but doesn't seem to know what to do with it, so they just bring it up and set it at your feet.
After a while you catch sight of something shiny in the sand. It's a large piece of silvery metal, covered in some sort of glossy finish! When the light hits it just right, all sorts of rainbows are reflected off it like some sort of gem. Down here you can just make out something big down at the other end of the beach, but you estimate that it would probably take about half a day to walk down there.

You take all the things you have collected back and put them in a pile. You push one end of your metal piece into the sand to try and create a lean to, but with nothing to brace it it just falls over.

Spoiler: Your stash (click to show/hide)

It is now late morning. You have the majority of the day before you.

Inspect Ration's genitals. This is of utmost importance.

Rename Ration to Smilodon, because it's a much cooler and badass name. Also for fucks sake this isn't RimWorld.

Go find a rock or stick and smash open the crate.

Island
an SG

You decide to inspect Rations Genitals by flipping the cat over. It is a he. He meows at you indignantly. You decide to give him a better name as an apology.  You name him Smilodon. He meows again and walks away with his tail raised. Maybe he like Ration better?

Next, you decide to find a good stick for the purpose of smashing the crate. You head up into the forest for this task. Once you're out of the sand onto actual dirt, the palm trees give way to pines. The underbrush is thick, but you don't have to go far to find a stick. You think you should probably find something to help you manage before you try going further in though. You collect a sizable branch and head back to your stash.

The wood on your small crate is waterlogged, and it comes apart after a few good whacks. Inside, you find a few different things. The first is a very heavy small metal box that is fastened with some sort of lock. You would need a far better tool to break into this.
You decide to pay attention to what you can use though. The first, and possible most important thing, is a water filter. What luck! It has a filter built into the top of a small bottle that you can pump water into. The bottle would probably hold enough for One days water, but it would take some time to work the pump to fill it. Still, it's a source of fresh water, and that's more than you probably could have hoped for. There is also two foil wrapped food bars and a compass in the box. You can't read the writing on the wrappers, but the bars feel heavy. You guess that each one could probably feed you for a day. You add the smashed remains of the box to your driftwood pile. It's about another 2 handfuls.

You use your stick to prop up your metal piece, making a sort of lean-to on the beach. You pull your stash into the shade underneath it.

The sun is high overhead. It is midday. You have half the day before you.

More updates when I wake up.

Let's bring our stash a little further up from the water, and find a fallen tree.

rename Smilodon to Rational Smilodon. Call him "Ration" and "Smiley" alternately. Once this is done, decide that it will take more votes than one to change his name again. Then pee in the water filter, because we have no other source of water at all. None whatsoever.

Smilodon is a good name, and the water filter has a chance (not one we should probably take) to filter out ammonia and other chemicals you don't want to drink and/OR sodium.

Island
an SG

You decide it would probably be good to get off the beach, so you drag your stash up to the tree line. You prop up your lean-to against a tree on one side and your stick on the other. This is probably stable enough not to fall over in a strong gust of wind now.

You consider renaming the cat a third time, but decide against it. Too much renaming could stunt his growth, or something like that.

You decided to relieve yourself after that. You decide to do this on a tree instead of the water filter, because thats not how the water filter works. The device consists of a bottle (Which is already full of water anyways), and a large metal filter attached to the side. The filter has a small plastic inlet tube, and a hand pump. Working the pump creates suction and pressure that forces the water through an incredibly dense filter and into the bottle. The inlet tube needs to be placed in a source of water, and then a large amount of pressure created with the pump. Given the pressure needed to force the water through the filter, you imagine that it must be giving you incredibly clean water, though this does also cause it to take some amount of time to fill the bottle.

Last of all you start looking for a fallen tree. It's a bit more difficult than you thought it would be in the under brush, and it takes you some amount of time. On the way you find some torn clothing that seems to have gotten caught in the treeline. You collect it in case you need it later. It amounts to about 2 torn rags.

You do find your tree, and something else besides. There is a trail nearby, leading further into the forest. It doesn't look like a trail people use. It looks more like a game trail. You sit down on the fallen tree, an old pine, and think about what you should do next.

The sun is low overhead. It is late afternoon. You have have some time before dark.

So days are 7 post cycles I assume.

Post 1: Early morning
Post 2: Late morning
Post 3: Afternood
Post 4: Late Afternoon
Post 5: Sunset
Post 6: Dusk
Post 7: Night (probably skipped since I don't expect anything to be done while sleeping)

Action:
>Attempt to make a spear using the stick as a handle, the metal piece as a head (lets try and sharpen it into a spear shape first if possible), and the torn rags to help give a grip.
