I'm going to science my way out of it by saying that, IRL, if you used a Javelin you generally carried several with you, since they had to to be small and lightweight enough to throw. My logic is that you would carry about 10 on you in a little bundle, kinda like a quiver, and then pick up the ones that aren't broken when you finish that particular 1v1, and remove the ones that aren't broken when the whole fight is over.

Or something like that. I dunno why I'm even trying to science my way through an IntSys game.

It should be noted that science is often a valid answer in this game. Not always, but most times.

History: His family owns a moderately successful merchant company, though as he has no aptitude or love for the business he works as a guard on one of their ships. He finds the job rather boring and desires to travel the world, or at least go somewhere else. He has trouble accomplishing this as he tends to be excessively charitable and easily convinced by tales of poor fortune, so he rarely has much money saved

I'm beginning to sense a bit of a pattern here. Not that I mind:

Story: Toby, born as the 5th son to a moderately prosperous merchant who lived 1 days ride from Alexandria, knew from birth (specifically his 3 elder brothers and elder sister) that there was no way he would ever be able to inherit the family business. Stubbornly deciding at an early age that he would act as though he CHOSE not to inherit, and that being a merchant held no interest to him (which now he truly believes), Toby decided he wanted to be a household guard or soldier of some kind.

2 months after basic training, he noticed how little he was being paid, and joined a moderately well-known mercenary group instead. After serving with them for some time, he requested some time off to go and explore, maybe even start a separate branch of the mercenary group (the Iron Brotherhood, the called themselves). His boss, Walter, had been pleased with Toby's efficiency in combat, and gave him permission to go. On his various travels. Toby lost the majority of his platemail in a game of cards, won a steel lance (which he wasn't good enough to use) and a shield off of an unlucky bandit who challenged him to a duel, and is now looking for some candidates to start the Iron Brotherhood's 1st Foreign Company.

The non-inheriting sons of prosperous families generally join some sort of military group anyways.

We can bond over our shared dislike of being a merchant I guess.

It'd be kind of funny if we got some more players in our group and they also had a similar backstory.

Y'see, if newcomers come in and read the OOC first, I don't want them to see my conversation with the other guy about how I've spotted a bit of a  pattern with character backgrounds, and it would be funnier to see if said pattern continues on it's own, y'see.
on a subnote, I just saw a picture of 2 characters from my favorite webtoons and was they look so similar that I thought the one was supposed to be a younger version of the other *facepalm*
