carpets
« on: June 30, 2018, 01:34:06 am »

so immagine you have built a constructed room for some reason and you want to up its value and you have quite a lot of fabrics and leather wouldn't it be nice if you could use those fabrics to make a carpet along the room?

it could work just like engravings but for constructed tiles

finnaly a good use for dies allowing for art

what do you think of it? Have any suggestions?

It's a reasonable idea. I would go with rugs rather than carpets, though. You could build them on the floor, like hatches.

Carpets/rugs were planned for the manor release in the caravan arc releases (release 3 out of 9), which were abandoned in favor of world activation (started out as release 5 out of 9 and was promoted) back in... 2012 to 14?

Tapestries would be interesting too.

The Innovations plan has/had a bunch of textile-related inventions, carpets & tapestries among them. One of the more relevant to the current thread was the production of Doormats, largely identical to rugs except made out of much coarser material: rope reed fiber, hemp, jute, etc. Contaminants on dwarves' feet would naturally wipe off onto rugs and doormats fairly equally, but the stiffer nature (and, optimally, higher pile) of doormats meant that they were both more effective and more absorbent--and didn't cause their owners to feel insulted whenever anybody dirtied one of their possessions.

I feel we could reuse the same system to make like mosaics and things like that.

I'm in favour of anything that can increase the value of constructed rooms to at least nearly the same as engraved rooms.

I don't see why you couldn't engrave constructed rooms.

Imagine the reactions from the engraver/-s if you have to deconstruct an entire engraved room...

it seems safe to assume it would garner the same reaction as when you dig through an engraved natural wall.

What if you do not plan on deconstructing it?

I wonder if the engravings would remain as a decoration on the block items instead.

And blocks could be pre-engraved before being used to construct walls.
