Massive Lag Sending Squad on Mission

After sending a squad on a mission from the world map, my FPS dropped from 40 to ~1. Why is this? Is there anything I can do to prevent such a massive drop?

I sent squads on a couple of missions before this one without any trouble...

EDIT: It seems that the lag is starting before the squads even leave the fortress.

It seems like a bug, but I don't know if it's a common issue or if anybody has found some workarounds.

Huh. Yes, yes one is.

Teleporting him out of the tree fixed the issue.
